Gabriel Marselis Sr.
Gabriel Marselis (c. 157516 July 1643, Hamburg) was a Dutch merchant. He established a large trading house, based in Amsterdam and Hamburg, with connections to several royal houses in Europe. Marselis may have been born in Antwerp to a family who escaped to the Northern Netherlands before or during the siege of that city by the Spanish in 1584/5. Around 1597 and probably in Rotterdam, Marselis married Anna L'Hermite (c.1577–1652), who was definitely from Antwerp and was related to the contemporary merchant Jacques L'Hermite. Among their sons were Selius Marselis, Gabriel Marselis Gabriel Marselis (1609 – buried 5 April 1673) was a Danish tradesman and land owner. Knut Helle
Knut Helle (19 December 1930 – 27 June 2015) was a Norwegian historian. A professor at the University of Bergen from 1973 to 2000, he specialized in the late medieval history of Norway. He has contributed to several large works. Early life, education and marriage He was born in Larvik as the son of school inspector Hermann Olai Helle (1893–1973) and teacher Berta Marie Malm (1906–1991). He was the older brother of politician Ingvar Lars Helle. The family moved to Hetland when Knut Helle was seventeen years old. Selius Marselis
Selius Marselis (15 December 1600 – 20 March 1663) was a Dutch born, Norwegian tradesman. He was also a major land owner whose possessions included ownership of Frogner Manor. Marselis was born in Rotterdam, the son of merchant Gabriel Marselis Sr. (c. 1575–1643). He was the brother of Gabriel Marselis and Leonhard Marselis. Along with his brothers he brought his father's trading company in 1631 and traded in grain, weapons, copper and lumber. He settled in Christiania (now Oslo) in 1644 after he was granted a number of special privileges. He had contracts for delivering several ships to the Danish-Norwegian fleet. He and his brother Gabriel gave the king considerable loan and received as consideration interests in several mining operations. Jacques L'Hermite
Jacques l'Hermite (c. 1582 – June 2, 1624), sometimes also known as Jacques le Clerq , was a Dutch merchant, explorer and admiral known for his journey around the globe with the Nassau Fleet (1623–1626) and for his blockade and raid on Callao in 1624 during that same voyage in which he also died. He served the Dutch East India Company as chief merchant in Bantam and Ambon Island in the Dutch East Indies. The Chilean Hermite Islands near Cape Horn which his fleet charted in February 1624 are named after him.
