Eric Hotz
Eric Hotz is a graphic artist and illustrator. Early life and education He was born in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada and studied at Simon Fraser University, Langara College, and Capilano College, mainly studying archaeology, art history, fine arts and commercial art. Career Hotz worked for First Encounter Magazine (DELF) 1983 to 1984, and Columbia Games Inc. from 1984 to 2000, and was the in-house illustrator, production editor, and cartographer for their '' Hârn'' books. He did the design and art for the role-playing game '' High Colonies'' (1988) for Waterford Publishing House Ltd. The ''Generic Universal RolePlaying System'', or ''GURPS'', is a tabletop role-playing game system designed to allow for play in any game setting. It was created by Steve Jackson Games and first published in 1986 at a time when most such systems were story- or genre-specific. Players control their in-game characters verbally and the success of their actions are determined by the skill of their character, the difficulty of the action, and the rolling of dice. Characters earn points during play which are used to gain greater abilities. Gaming sessions are story-told and run by " Game Masters" (often referred to as simply "GMs"). ''InQuest Gamer'' was a monthly magazine for game reviews and news that was published from 1995 to 2007. Originally, the magazine was named ''InQuest'' and focused solely on collectible card games (CCGs); ''InQuest'', along with its competitor ''Scrye'', were the two major CCG magazines. Later, the magazine changed its focus to cover a wider range of games, including role-playing games, computer and video games, collectible miniature games, board games, and others. TSR (company)
TSR, Inc. was an American game publishing company, best known as the original publisher of ''Dungeons & Dragons'' (''D&D''). Its earliest incarnation, Tactical Studies Rules, was founded in October 1973 by Gary Gygax and Don Kaye. Gygax had been unable to find a publisher for ''D&D'', a new type of game he and Dave Arneson were co-developing, so founded the new company with Kaye to self-publish their products. Needing financing to bring their new game to market, Gygax and Kaye brought in Brian Blume in December as an equal partner. ''Dungeons & Dragons'' is generally considered the first tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG), and established the genre. When Kaye died suddenly in 1975, the Tactical Studies Rules partnership restructured into TSR Hobbies, Inc. and accepted investment from Blume's father Melvin. Ray Winninger is a game designer who has worked on a number of roleplaying games, including the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' fantasy roleplaying game. He is the former Executive Producer for the Wizards of the Coast ''Dungeons & Dragons'' studio. Career Ray Winninger was a competitive chess player as a child, and at age nine he discovered Avalon Hill games and ''Dungeons & Dragons'' while looking for chess opponents at a local hobby shop/game store. ''Dragon'' is one of the two official magazines for source material for the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' role-playing game and associated products, along with ''Dungeon (magazine), Dungeon''. Steffan O'Sullivan is the author of several role-playing game books. Career Steffan O'Sullivan was a ''GURPS'' writer whose projects included ''GURPS Swashbucklers'' (1990) and '' GURPS Bunnies & Burrows'' (1992). He designed the ''FUDGE'' role-playing game system, first releasing it for free on the internet on December 7, 1993. Graeme Davis (born 1958, in Isleworth, England) is a game designer, writer and editor who has worked extensively in the roleplaying game industry. Biography Davis started playing ''Dungeons & Dragons'' in the mid-1970s, shortly after it was first imported into the United Kingdom.
