G. V. Dorsey
Godwin Volney Dorsey (November 17, 1812 – May 15, 1885) was a United States Democratic Party, Democrat and later Republican Party (United States), Republican politician in the state of Ohio and was Ohio State Treasurer from 1862 to 1865. Godwin Dorsey was born November 17, 1812, at Oxford, Ohio, Oxford Butler County, Ohio. He graduated from Miami University, and from the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center, Medical College of Ohio in 1836. He then settled in Piqua, Ohio. Presidential elector in 1848 for Lewis Cass, Cass/William Orlando Butler, Butler. He was a Democratic delegate to the 1850 Ohio Constitutional Convention, and a member of the Democratic National Convention in 1856. He was the Democratic nominee for the Ohio's 4th congressional district, 4th congressional district in 1854, but lost with 30% of the vote. In 1856 he lost to Matthias H. David Tod
David Tod (February 21, 1805 – November 13, 1868) was an American politician and industrialist from the U.S. state of Ohio. As the 25th governor of Ohio, Tod gained recognition for his forceful and energetic leadership during the American Civil War. A Democrat who supported the war effort, Tod helped to maintain a fragile alliance between the state's Republicans and War Democrats and took steps to secure Ohio's borders. In 1863, the state's pro-Union party failed to nominate Tod for a second term because of his tepid support for the abolition of slavery and his unpopularity among the state's myriad political factions. After completing his two-year term as Ohio governor, Tod turned down an invitation to serve in the government of President Abraham Lincoln as Secretary of the Treasury, citing poor health.
