Art Critic
An art critic is a person who is specialized in analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating art. Their written critiques or reviews contribute to art criticism and they are published in newspapers, magazines, books, exhibition brochures, and catalogues and on websites. Some of today's art critics use art blogs and other online platforms in order to connect with a wider audience and expand debate about art. Differently from art history, there is not an institutionalized training for art critics (with only few exceptions); art critics come from different backgrounds and they may or may not be university trained. Professional art critics are expected to have a keen eye for art and a thorough knowledge of art history. Philip Taaffe
Philip Taaffe (born 1955) is an American artist, who has shown his works all around the world. His work sometimes blended motifs from multiple cultures. Biography Taaffe was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey and studied at the Cooper Union in New York, gaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1977. Career An admirer of Matisse's cut-outs and of Synthetic Cubism, from the mid-1980s he began to borrow images and designs directly from more recent artists. Tishan Hsu (born 1951) is an American contemporary artist based in New York. Hsu's practice examines the "embodiment of technology," or technology's impact on phenomenology and affect. Hsu's works span across painting, sculpture, drawing, and computer-generated media and often incorporate unusual materials such as digital media, silicone, and Styrofoam. Recently, after his mother's death in 2013, Hsu's works have turned towards the relationship between technology and race, history, and heritage. Hunter Wayne Reynolds (July 30, 1959–June 12, 2022) was an American visual artist, and AIDS activist. He was known for his performance art and protest, and he was an early member of the AIDS activism group ACT UP. In 1989, he co-founded ART + Positive.
