G. P. Mix
Gainford P. "Gub" Mix (October 15, 1876 – June 28, 1944) was an American politician and farmer from Idaho. He served as the state's 19th and 21st lieutenant governor. Early life and education Born in Grand Island, Nebraska, Mix came by wagon to north central Idaho as a child with his family of twelve in 1883. His parents, Franklin E. Mix (1838–1919) and Mary Grimes Mix (1841–1904), settled in the Palouse region, near Moscow. A portion of the family's farm at the west end of Moscow is now the Palouse Mall. Mix was the first student at the University of Idaho in Moscow in October 1892, starting at its prep school as a teenager. He was the first graduate of the College of Agriculture in 1901, a quarterback on the football team, and later its graduate manager. The lieutenant governor of Idaho is a constitutional statewide elected office in the U.S. state of Idaho. According to the Idaho Constitution, the officeholder is elected to a four-year term. Gritman Medical Center
Gritman Medical Center is a critical access, not-for-profit hospital in the western United States, located in Moscow, Idaho. Established in in 1897, the hospital is named after Dr. Charles L. Gritman. The medical center is the largest private employer in Latah County. History Dr. Gritman began providing care to the Moscow community in 1893, visiting patients throughout Latah County by horse and buggy. In 1897, he purchased the former McGregor Hotel, at the southeast corner of Seventh and Main Streets, and opened the doors of the original Gritman hospital. The original hospital housed 30 beds for surgical patients and expecting mothers. Dr. Gritman performed the first appendectomy in the area at the hospital. After Dr. Gritman passed at age 70 in 1933, his wife Bertie opened the hospital to Moscow's physicians. By this time, the hospital began to need renovations to meet 20th century medical standards. Moscow High School
Moscow High School (MHS) is a four-year public high school in Moscow, Idaho, United States. The flagship school of the Moscow School District, it serves grades 9–12 and its principal since 2013 is Erik Perryman with Brett Clevenger serving as vice principal. The school colors are red, black, and white, and the mascot is a bear. Campus Less than three blocks east of Main Street on a moderate slope, its current compact campus opened in 1939, with wings added in 1968 and 1991. The previous high school of 1912 is across Third Street to the north; it was used as the junior high until 1959 and is now the "1912 Center." Idaho Vandals
The Idaho Vandals are the intercollegiate athletic teams representing the University of Idaho, located in Moscow. The Vandals compete at the NCAA Division I level as a member of the Big Sky Conference. The football team was an independent for the 2013 season due to a major wave of departures from the Western Athletic Conference that left just two football-playing schools. In July 2014, Idaho returned its football team to the Sun Belt Conference and the other sports rejoined the Big Sky Conference. The university's official colors are silver and gold, honoring the state's mining tradition. Because these metallic colors in tandem are not visually complementary for athletic uniforms, black and gold are the prevalent colors for the athletic teams, with an occasional use of silver, similar to Colorado, whose official colors are also silver and gold.
