G. Janardhana Kurup
G. Janardhana Kurup (died 25 March 2011) was an Indian lawyer and communist politician. He grew up in Kollam, and joined the struggle for Indian independence at an early age. In the 1950s, he took part in founding the Kerala People's Arts Club. He was one of the main actors and a co-director in the play Ningalenne Communistakki, which was written by Thoppil Bhasi for the Kerala People's Arts Club Kerala People's Arts Club (KPAC) is a theatrical movement in Kayamkulam, Kerala, India. It was formed in the 1950s by a group of individuals having close ties with Communist Party of India in Kerala. KPAC was very influential in popularising .... Kerala People's Arts Club
Kerala People's Arts Club (KPAC) is a theatrical movement in Kayamkulam, Kerala, India. It was formed in the 1950s by a group of individuals having close ties with Communist Party of India in Kerala. KPAC was very influential in popularising the Communist movement in Kerala. In 1951, KPAC staged its first drama, ''Ente Makanaanu Sheri'' (My Son is Right). The songs of this play were written by Punaloor Balan. Its second drama Ningalenne Communistakki (You Made Me a Communist), first performed in 1952, became a path-breaking play in the history of Malayalam theatre. The play was penned by the renowned playwright Thoppil Bhasi, under the pseudonym Soman. Bhasi was underground when he wrote the play. ''Ningalenne Communistakki'' ( ml, നിങ്ങളെന്നെ കമ്മ്യൂണിസ്റ്റാക്കി, meaning: ''you made me a communist'') is a Malayalam socio-political play by Kerala People's Arts Club (KPAC). This was the second and most popular stage play of KPAC . This drama propelled KPAC into the forefront of kerala cultural scene and played a historical role in popularising the Communist movement in Kerala during 1950's eventually leading to the establishment of first democratically elected communist ministry in the world in 1957 in Kerala. Marad Massacre
The Marad massacre (sometimes called the ''Second'' Marad Massacre) was incident of targeted communal killing of Hindus at the Marad Beach of the Kozhikode district, Kerala, India, in May 2003, by Islamic fundamentalist groups. The Indian Union Muslim League, then a constituent of the United Progressive Alliance, was directly involved in the slaughter. In January 2002, five people were killed following a scuffle over drinking at a public water tap. The next year, eight Hindus were killed by Islamic extremists and one attacker, Mohammed Ashker, was hit by accident and was also killed. The Kerala Sahitya Akademi or Academy for Malayalam literature is an autonomous body established to promote the Malayalam language and Malayalam literature, literature. It is situated in City of Thrissur, Kerala in India. History The academy was inaugurated on 15 October 1956, by Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, the former king of Travancore, in Thiruvananthapuram.
