G. Fowler Stewart
George Fowler Stewart (1861 – 3 January 1917), generally known as Fowler Stewart, was a Scots-born businessman and public figure in Adelaide, South Australia. History Stewart was the youngest son of Charles Stewart, a prominent manufacturer of Kirkcaldy, Fifeshire, Scotland, and was educated at a college in Edinburgh. In 1879 he started work at the London office of D. & J. Fowler founded by his uncles David, James and (later) George Fowler. In 1881 he was sent to Adelaide to learn the business there, and in 1887 took over management of the Fremantle, Western Australia branch. He spent several years travelling the world, returned to Adelaide in 1889 and in 1890 married Laura Hill, youngest daughter of William Hill. When D & J Fowler was floated as a public company, Stewart was sent to London as a Director. He returned to Adelaide in 1901 and in 1914 retired from the Company. Kirkcaldy
Kirkcaldy ( ; sco, Kirkcaldy; gd, Cair Chaladain) is a town and former royal burgh in Fife, on the east coast of Scotland. It is about north of Edinburgh and south-southwest of Dundee. The town had a recorded population of 49,460 in 2011, making it Fife's second-largest settlement and the List of towns and cities in Scotland by population, 12th most populous settlement in Scotland. Kirkcaldy has long been nicknamed the Lang Toun (; Scots language, Scots for "long town") in reference to the early town's main street, as indicated on maps from the 16th and 17th centuries. Glenelg was an electoral district of the House of Assembly in the Australian state of South Australia from 1938 to 1985. The Holdfast Bay area has long been a conservative stronghold, and Glenelg was one of the few Adelaide-area seats where the Liberal and Country League consistently did well. Mount Barker, South Australia
Mount Barker is a city in South Australia. Located approximately 33 kilometres (21 miles) from the Adelaide city centre, it is home to 16,629 residents. It is the seat of the District Council of Mount Barker, the largest town in the Adelaide Hills, as well as one of the fastest-growing areas in the state. Mount Barker lies at the base of a local eponymous peak called the Mount Barker summit. It is 50 kilometres from the Murray River. Mount Barker was traditionally a farming area; many of the lots just outside the town area are farming lots, although some of them have been replaced with new subdivisions in recent times. John Dunn (miller)
John Dunn Sr. (13 February 1802 – 13 October 1894) was a flour miller in the early days of the colony of South Australia; a parliamentarian, philanthropist and a prominent citizen of Mount Barker, South Australia. Career He was born in the parish of Bondleigh, Devon, the son of a small farmer. At the age of 10 he was working as a servant, then for seven years was apprenticed to a miller at North Tawton. He was then appointed manager of a steam mill in Bideford, Devon and in 1836 owned his own mill at Monkleigh, some 6 km to the south. It organised competitions between the member societies and established a "Union Parliament" to debate issues of the day.
