G. E. Mingay
Gordon Edmund Mingay (1923 – 3 January 2006) was a British historian. Early life He was born in Long Eaton, Derbyshire and grew up in Chatham. His education was interrupted by the Second World War and he entered the Royal Navy in 1942. He served on HMS ''Uganda'', where he helped support the landing in Sicily and at Salerno. In 1944, he became a cypher officer and was put in charge of shore bases during the Normandy landings. After serving in the Far East he was demobilised in 1946. Mingay married in 1945.W. A. Duke Of Kingston
Duke of Kingston-upon-Hull was a title in the Peerage of Great Britain, with the title Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull being a title in the Peerage of England. The Earldom was created on 25 July 1628 for Robert Pierrepont, 1st Viscount Newark. The Dukedom was created on 10 August 1715 for his great-grandson, Evelyn Pierrepont, 1st Marquess of Dorchester, who had succeeded as the fifth Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull in 1690. The Dukedom became extinct on the death of the second Duke in 1773. Unlike the city to which they refer, Kingston upon Hull, which is usually shortened to Hull, these titles are usually shortened to Duke (or Earl) of Kingston. (The titles were hyphenated but the city is now usually written without hyphens). Bolton School
Bolton School is an independent day school in Bolton, Greater Manchester. It comprises a co-educational nursery, co-educational infant school (ages 3–7), single sex junior schools (ages 7–11) and single sex senior schools including sixth forms (ages 11–18). With over 2,400 pupils, it is one of the largest independent day schools in the country. History Early history Established as Bolton Grammar School, it is not known exactly when the boys' school was founded although it is recorded in 1516. In 1525, William Shaw of Wigan sold land worth 33s 4d p.a. towards the maintenance of a schoolmaster to teach grammar in Bolton.
