Fútbol de Primera is an American radio network covering soccer. It is the home of the most exclusive soccer radio rights in the country. It has broadcast the World Cup since 2002, including the most recent 2022 FIFA World Cup, along with other FIFA tournaments. FDP also broadcasts Mexico's national team games, the CONCACAF Gold Cup, and had broadcast the Copa América in 2015 and 2016. Fútbol de Primera produces a daily show hosted by Andrés Cantor, which has been running since 1989. Alongside Cantor, the show's personalities are Sammy Sadovnik, Jaime Gallardo, and Rosa Beatriz Sánchez. Andrés Cantor
Andrés Cantor (born December 22, 1962) is an Argentine-American sportscaster and pundit who works in the United States providing Spanish-language commentary and analysis in sports. Cantor is well known among both Spanish- and English speakers for his narration of association football matches, and shouting "'' ¡Gooooooooooool!'' when one is scored. Outside of football commentary, he covers other sports as well. Cantor has dual citizenship with Argentina and the United States. Early life Cantor was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup
The 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup football tournament was the sixth FIFA Confederations Cup, held in France in June 2003. France retained the title they had won in 2001, but the tournament was overshadowed by the death of Cameroon player Marc-Vivien Foé, who died of heart failure in his side's semi-final against Colombia. Foé's death united the France and Cameroon teams in the final match, which was played even though team players from both sides had explicitly stated that the match should not be played out of respect for Foé. France went on to win the trophy with a golden goal from Thierry Henry. The FIFA Confederations Cup was an international association football tournament for men's national teams, held every four years by FIFA. It was contested by the holders of each of the six continental championships ( AFC, CAF, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, OFC, and UEFA), along with the current FIFA World Cup holder and the host nation, to bring the number of teams up to eight. The Fútbol de Primera Player of the Year, formerly known as the Honda Player of the Year, recognizes the best player on the United States Men's National Soccer Team, as chosen by the national sports media. The award was created by Fútbol de Primera in 1991. Hugo Pérez was the first player to win this award. The CONCACAF qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup consisted of four rounds of competition, in which the 35 member nations competed for three automatic berths at the finals in Brazil.
