Fósforos De Oxford
''Fósforos de Oxford'' (Portuguese for ''Matches from Oxford'') is the only album by Brazilian post-punk band Cabine C. It was released in 1986 by RPM Discos, which was founded by Paulo Ricardo and Luiz Schiavon of RPM. It was the only album to be released by the label, which closed in 1987 after RPM's first break-up. Most of the album's lyrics are based on works by Edgar Allan Poe; for example, "Pânico e Solidão" was based on his 1838 novel ''The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket'', and "A Queda do Solar de Usher" shares its name with Poe's eponymous 1839 short story. The album was never re-released in CD form, and is very rare and difficult to obtain; however, it is available for free download on Ciro Pessoa's official SoundCloud page, and the track "Tão Perto" was included in the 2005 compilation of Brazilian post-punk music ''The Sexual Life of the Savages''. Cabine C
Cabine C (, Portuguese for "Cabin C") was a short-lived Brazilian post-punk band from São Paulo. With their sonority inspired by acts such as Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, Cocteau Twins and Talking Heads, and vocalist Ciro Pessoa's lyrics influenced by Romantic and Symbolist poets such as Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Baudelaire and Arthur Rimbaud, and by playwright Antonin Artaud, they are considered to be one of the first and most famous Brazilian gothic rock bands (even though Pessoa publicly rejected any associations with the goth subculture at the time), as well as forerunners of the cold wave movement in Brazil. Despite their short lifespan, they have a strong cult following to the present day. The compact disc (CD) is a Digital media, digital optical disc data storage format that was co-developed by Philips and Sony to store and play digital audio recordings. Twelve-string Guitar
A twelve-string guitar (or 12-string guitar) is a steel-string guitar with 12 strings in six courses, which produces a thicker, more ringing tone than a standard six-string guitar. Typically, the strings of the lower four courses are tuned in octaves, with those of the upper two courses tuned in unison. The gap between the strings within each dual-string course is narrow, and the strings of each course are fretted and plucked as a single unit. The neck is wider, to accommodate the extra strings, and is similar to the width of a classical guitar neck. The sound, particularly on acoustic instruments, is fuller and more harmonically resonant than six-string instruments. Magazine (band)
Magazine were an English rock band formed in 1977 in Manchester in England by singer Howard Devoto and guitarist John McGeoch. After leaving the punk group Buzzcocks in early 1977, Devoto decided to create a more progressive and less "traditional" rock band. The original lineup of Magazine was composed of Devoto, McGeoch, Barry Adamson on bass, Bob Dickinson on keyboards and Martin Jackson on drums. Their debut album ''Real Life'' (1978) was critically acclaimed and was one of the first post-punk albums. The Sexual Life Of The Savages
''The Sexual Life of the Savages'' (subtitled ''Underground Post-Punk from São Paulo, Brazil'') is a compilation album produced by Bruno Verner and Eliete Mejorado (the components of avant-garde music duo Tetine), and released in 2005 by British record company Soul Jazz Records. It contains a collection of songs from various artists that formed the São Paulo post-punk movement of the early 1980s. The album's name is an allusion to a verse of the song "Nosso Louco Amor" by Gang 90 e as Absurdettes, one of the bands present in the compilation. Depicted in the album's front cover is Patife Band's frontman Paulo Barnabé. Critical reception The album received positive reviews. Scott Hreha of PopMatters stated: "If there's one drawback to the disc as a whole, it's the relative transparency of many of the bands' inspirations, which doesn't diminish its importance as much as it makes for an entertaining critical exercise".
