Futurepoem Books
Futurepoem Books is an American not-for-profit publishing, press based in New York City. Futurepoem was founded by Dan Machlin in 2002 and focuses on publishing innovative poetry, prose and hybrid literature. The press has a rotating editorial board. Three books are published each year: two from the open reading period and one winner of the Other Futures Award. Each year three new editors select books sent in during the presses open reading period. Winners of the Other Futures Award receive publication with a standard royalty contract, an honorarium of $1000, and 25 author copies. Futurepoem has received funding from The New York State Council on the Arts Literature Program and National Endowment for the Arts Literature program. The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) is an independent agency of the United States federal government that offers support and funding for projects exhibiting artistic excellence. It was created in 1965 as an independent agency of the federal government by an act of the U.S. Congress, signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on September 29, 1965 (20 U.S.C. 951). Simone White (writer)
Simone White (born 1972) is an American poet, literary critic, and assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2017, she won a Whiting Award for poetry. Much of her writing style is a hybrid between poetry and prose. Biography White was born in Middletown, Connecticut, and grew up in Philadelphia. She has a BA from Wesleyan University and earned a JD from Harvard Law School in 1997. She practiced law for seven years after graduation. Since then, she has also earned an MFA from The New School and a PhD in English from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She was a visiting associate professor at the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop in Spring 2018. Laura Mullen
Laura Mullen (born 1958 in Los Angeles), is a contemporary American poet working in hybrid genres and traditions. Life and work Mullen received her BA in English from UC Berkeley and her MFA in Poetry from the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop before going to teach at, among other places, Colorado State University, where her courses included seminars on Modernism, Postmodernism, and Cross-Genre Writing. She’s also been invited as a guest author to teach at Naropa University's Summer Writing Program (1996, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2008), Columbia College – Chicago - (spring semester 2003), Brown University (2001), and the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop Summer Program, (1998). She was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, 1988 and has since received numerous other fellowships in the United States and abroad. Shanxing Wang
Shanxing Wang is a contemporary American poet, scientist and political activist. Wang's first full-length book, ''Mad Science in Imperial City'', was published in 2005 by Futurepoem Books and was awarded the 2006 Asian American Literary Award for poetry. ''Mad Science'' combines Wang's past in the 1980s as an activist and scientist in China with his current life as a poet in America. Biography He was born in Qi County, Shanxi Province of China in 1965 and studied mechanical engineering at Xi'an Jiaotong University from 1980 to 1987. As a faculty member at Beijing University of Chemical Technology, he was an active participant in the Tiananmen Square demonstrations during the spring of 1989. Rachel Levitsky
Rachel Levitsky (born December 2, 1963) is a feminist avant-garde poet, novelist, essayist, translator, editor, educator, and a founder of Belladonna* Collaborative. She was born in New York City and earned an MFA from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. Her first poems were published in ''Clamour'', a magazine edited by Renee Gladman in San Francisco during the late 1990s. Levitsky has since written three books, nine chapbooks, and been translated into five languages. Writing Levitsky's first book, ''Under the Sun'', was published in 2002 by the New York City-based Futurepoem. The book was reviewed by Dale Smith for Jacket and also briefly in Publishers Weekly.
