Future Sicily
Future Sicily ( it, Sicilia Futura, SF) is a regional political party active in Sicily, Italy, led by former minister Salvatore Cardinale, whose daughter Daniela Cardinale was a deputy of the Democratic Party (PD). SF was launched in October 2015, within the Sicilian Regional Assembly, at the merger of the Pact of Democrats for Reforms, led by Salvatore Cardinale, with a large portion of Democratic Sicily. and supported the regional government led by Rosario Crocetta (PD). The party was initially called "Pact of Democrats for Reforms – Future Sicily" and was subsequently rebranded only "Future Sicily". In the 2016 local elections the party obtained substantial results in some medium-sized Sicilian cities: 15.8% in Favara, 14.5% in Canicattì, 14.1% in Barrafranca (where SD took 10.0%), and 9.3% in Alcamo. Salvatore Cardinale
Salvatore Cardinale (born 20 June 1948) is an Italian politician. Biography Graduated in law in 1972, he practiced the profession of lawyer at the court and the Court of Appeal of Caltanissetta and began political life in the youth movement of the Christian Democracy. In the 1980s he became Mayor of Mussomeli and provincial secretary of the DC of Caltanissetta. In 1987 and 1992 he was elected Deputy among the ranks of the Christian Democracy and from 1992 to 1994 he was also secretary of the Democratic parliamentary group in Montecitorio. In 1994 he was among the founders of the Christian Democratic Centre, with which he confirmed his parliamentary seat in the elections of 1994 and 1996. The party was launched in November 2014 by (elected on the UDC list), a long-time regional deputy, following a split from Article Four for internal disagreements during the formation of the 3rd Crocetta regional government. Mixed Group
The mixed group ( it, Gruppo Misto, GM) is a parliamentary group active in both houses of the Italian Parliament, the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. The groups comprise all the deputies and the senators, respectively, who are not members of any other parliamentary group. For them, membership of the Mixed Groups is the default option. Members of the Mixed Groups may form sub-groups reflecting their party affiliation. Alcamo
Alcamo (; scn, Àrcamu, italic=no) is the fourth-largest town and commune of the Province of Trapani, Sicily, with a population of 44.925 inhabitants. It is on the borderline with the Metropolitan City of Palermo at a distance of about 50 kilometres from Palermo and Trapani. Nowadays the town territory includes an area of 130,79 square kilometres and is the second municipality as for population density in the province of Trapani, after Erice. Barrafranca ( Latin: Convicinum, Calloniana) is a '' comune'' and city in Sicily, southern Italy in the Province of Enna. A Roman fortification known as Calloniana, in 1529 it was founded by Pietro Barresi, Prince of Pietraperzia, and took the current name from the Barresi family. Canicattì
Canicattì (; scn, Caniattì) is a town and ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Agrigento in the Italian region Sicily, located about southeast of Palermo and about east of Agrigento. In 2016, it had a population of 35,698. History The archaeological remains in the city and in the neighbourhood testify the presence of a settlement before the Roman age. The name of Canicattì is of Arabic origin, from ', meaning 'clay ditch'. During the conquest of Sicily by the Normans, the local Muslim lord was besieged and defeated by baron Salvatore Palmieri (1087), a follower of Roger I of Sicily: the latter, as reward, offered him a sword and the lordship over the fief. Favara is a town and ''comune'' of south central Sicily (Italy), in the province of Agrigento, north-east of Agrigento by road, with which it forms a conurbation. Historically, the town has had a considerable agricultural trade, and there are sulfur and other mines in the neighborhood. 2016 Italian Local Elections
The 2016 Italian local elections were held on 5 June, with a run-off, where necessary if a candidate for Mayor obtained less than 50 percent of votes in the first round, held on 19 June. In Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol the elections were held on 8 May (second round on 22 May), in Aosta Valley on 15 May. Municipal councilors and mayors ordinarily serve a term of five years. Voting system All mayoral elections in Italy in cities with a population higher than 15,000 use the same system.
