Valencian nationalism ( ca-valencia, Nacionalisme valencià; ) or Valencianism ( ca-valencia, Valencianisme) is a political movement in the Land of Valencia, Spain. It advocates the promotion and recognition of the Valencian language, culture and the political sovereignty of the Land of Valencia. Senyera Del Nacionalisme Valencià
The Senyera (; meaning "pennon", "standard", "banner", "ensign", or, more generically, "flag" in Catalan) is a vexillological symbol based on the coat of arms of the Crown of Aragon, which consists of four red stripes on a yellow field. This coat of arms, often called ''bars of Aragon'', or simply ''"the four bars"'', historically represented the King of the Crown of Aragon. The senyera pattern is currently in the flag of four Spanish autonomous communities (Aragon, Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community), and is the flag of the historically Catalan-speaking city of Alghero (Catalan: ''L'Alguer'') in Sardinia. It is also used on the coat of arms of Spain, the coat of arms of Pyrénées-Orientales and of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, the flag of Roussillon, Capcir, Vallespir and Provence in France, one quarter of the coat of arms of Andorra, and on the local flags of many municipalities belonging to these territories. Catalanist
Catalan nationalism is the ideology asserting that the Catalans are a distinct nation. Intellectually, modern Catalan nationalism can be said to have commenced as a political philosophy in the unsuccessful attempts to establish a federal state in Spain in the context of the First Republic (1873-1874). Valentí Almirall i Llozer and other intellectuals that participated in this process set up a new political ideology in the 19th century, to restore self-government, as well as to obtain recognition for the Catalan language. These demands were summarized in the so-called ''Bases de Manresa'' in 1892. It met very little support at first. Blaverism
Blaverism ( ca-valencia, blaverisme, ) is a Spanish nationalist and Valencian regionalist ideology in the Valencian Community (Spain) that emerged with the Spanish transition to democracy characterised by strong anti-Catalanism, born out of its opposition to Joan Fuster's book ''Nosaltres, els valencians'' (1962), which promoted the concept of the ''Catalan Countries'' which includes Valencia. They consider Fuster's ideas as an imperialist Catalan nationalist movement that tries to impose Catalan domination upon Valencia. Blaverism takes its name from the blue ( ca-valencia, blava, link=no) fringe which distinguishes the Valencian flag from other flags with a common origin, particularly from the Catalan. The term "blaverism" originally had a negative connotation, often pejorative connotation still kept among the social groups who consider the blaverism a type of far-right movement. Catalan Countries
The Catalan Countries ( ca, països catalans, , ) refers to those territories where the Catalan language is spoken. They include the Spanish regions of Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, Valencian Community, Valencia, and parts of Aragon (''La Franja'') and Region of Murcia, Murcia (Carche), as well as the Andorra, Principality of Andorra, the department of Pyrénées-Orientales (aka Northern Catalonia, including Cerdanya, Cerdagne, Roussillon, and Vallespir) in France, and the city of Alghero in Sardinia (Italy). In the context of Catalan nationalism, the term is sometimes used in a more restricted way to refer to just Catalonia, Valencia and the Balearic Islands. Joan Fuster I Ortells
Joan Fuster i Ortells (; 23 November 1922 – 21 June 1992) was an influential Spanish writer. He is considered a major writer in the Valencian language (a dialect of the Catalan language), and his work contributed to reinvigorate left-wing, pro-Catalan nationalism in Valencia during the Spanish transition to democracy. In his influential political essay Nosaltres, els valencians (1962) he coined the term ''Països Catalans'' (Catalan Countries) to refer to the Catalan-speaking territories. Life and works He was born in the village of Sueca near Valencia, Spain, in a relatively prosperous middle-class family. Both his parents were pious Roman Catholics and Carlists. Valencian regionalism is a cultural and political movement that advocates the revival of the identity (language, history, traditions and other distinctive features) of the region now within the Valencian Community in eastern Spain.
