Fusil Contra Fusil
"Fusil contra fusil" ( Spanish for "Rifle Against Rifle") is a song written and recorded by Silvio Rodríguez in 1968 as a tribute to Ernesto "Che" Guevara, who had died in 1967. It was first released by Casa de las Américas on the 1971 album ''Hasta la victoria siempre, Che querido''. The lyrics of the song praise revolutionary heroism, as was commonplace in the incipient nueva trova movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s. "Fusil contra fusil" was written before Rodríguez received formal musical training at ICAIC. The song was included in the third compilation album by the Grupo de Experimentación Sonora del ICAIC, an ensemble featuring the leading figures of the nueva trova movement. Silvio Rodríguez Domínguez (born 29 November 1946) is a Cuban musician, and leader of the Nueva Trova movement. He is widely considered Cuba's best folk singer and arguably one of Latin America's greatest singer-songwriters. Known for his intellectual, highly eloquent and symbolic lyrics, his songs are iconic elements of Latin American left-leaning popular culture. Appearances of Argentine Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara (1928–1967) in popular culture are common throughout the world. Blaak Heat (band)
Blaak Heat (formerly known as Blaak Heat Shujaa) is a French-American outfit whose recordings blend psychedelic rock with a number of outside sources, such as traditional Middle Eastern music, progressive rock, surf rock, spaghetti western, and metal. The band was founded by Thomas Bellier and Antoine Morel-Vulliez in 2008 in Paris while they were graduate students at Sciences Po. A Picardy third, (; french: tierce picarde) also known as a Picardy cadence or Tierce de Picardie, is a major chord of the tonic at the end of a musical section that is either modal or in a minor key. This is achieved by raising the third of the expected minor triad by a semitone to create a major triad, as a form of resolution. Nueva Trova
Nueva Trova (, "new trova") is a movement in Cuban music that emerged around 1967/68 after the Cuban Revolution of 1959, and the consequent political and social changes. Nueva Trova has its roots in the traditional trova, but differs from it because its content is, in the widest sense, political. It combines traditional folk music idioms with 'progressive' and often politicized lyrics. It is related to nueva canción in Latin America, especially Chile and Argentina. Some of the Nueva Trova musicians were also influenced by rock and pop of that time.
