Funemployed (book)
''Funemployed'' is the name of both a book by Australian author, performer and musician Justin Heazlewood and an album by his alter-ego The Bedroom Philosopher. It was serialised on ABC Radio National, and also made available as a podcast Summary Described by its author as 'Part confessional and part rogue self-help book' , ''Funemployed'' details financial, psychological and logistical challenges facing creative individuals in Australia. Drawing on Heazlewood's own experiences, the book features interviews with Tony Martin, Gotye, John Safran, Clare Bowditch, Amanda Palmer and many others. Funemployed was launched with a complete live reading at Melbourne venue The Howler. Album Heazlewood released an eight-track soundtrack album Funemployed LP to accompany the book. Justin Marcus Heazlewood, the Bedroom Philosopher, is an Australian author, songwriter and performer. He has released several albums of musical comedy, toured Australia extensively, been nominated for an ARIA Award and published books about his experiences in the entertainment industry. Recording career 2002–2005 ''Living on the Edge of My Bed'' The Bedroom Philosopher began in 2002, Heazlewood submitted a three-minute radio piece for the ABC Heywire competition about his passion for folk music, which led to him becoming a regular guest on Triple J's ''The Morning Show''. He also filmed two pilot episodes of ''The Bedroom Philosopher Show'' for ABC Fly TV, a now defunct digital youth television station. Sam Simmons (born 19 March 1976) is an Australian comedian and radio and TV presenter. Career Simmons has appeared on '' Conan'', ''8 Out of 10 Cats'', ''Room 101'', '' Adam DeVine's House Party'' and is currently developing his own sitcom in the UK. Network appearances include NBC, BBC, Channel 4, ABC, and all other Australian networks. Timothy Adrian Rogers (born 20 September 1969), known professionally as Tim Rogers, is an Australian musician, actor and writer, best known as the frontman of Australian rock band You Am I. Brian Ritchie (born November 21, 1960) is the bass guitarist for the alternative rock band Violent Femmes. Ritchie was born and raised in the United States and is currently a dual citizen of the U.S. and Australia, with his full-time residence in Australia. In addition to his bass playing, Ritchie is proficient at the shakuhachi, a Music of Japan, Japanese bamboo flute. He acquired a Jun Shihan (shakuhachi teaching license) in March 2003 from James Nyoraku Schlefer, and his professional name is "Tairaku" ("big music" in Japanese language, Japanese). Wouter André "Wally" De Backer (born 21 May 1980), better known by his stage name Gotye ( ), is a Belgian-Australian multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter. The name "Gotye" is a pronunciation respelling of "Gauthier", the French cognate of his Dutch given name "Wouter". Anthony Francis Martin (born 10 June 1964) is a New Zealand comedian, writer and actor, who has had a successful TV, radio, stand-up and film career in Australia.
