South Atlanta High School
South Atlanta High School is a public high school located in the southeast corner of Atlanta, Georgia, United States. It is located on the site of former George High School, and it formed as the result of the merger of George and nearby Fulton High School. It has been transformed into a campus of four small schools. As of the 2008-2009 school year, it had an enrollment of approximately 1000 students. History South Atlanta was established in 1994 after the merger of Walter F. George High School (which was located at the current South Atlanta complex) and Fulton High School (which was located at the present-day Dobbs Elementary near the Lakewood area). George High School hosted a vocational program which offered classes such as woodworking, brickwork, auto mechanics, home economics, and welding. FHS is part of River Bend Community Unit School District, which serves the communities of Fulton and Albany, and includes River Bend Middle School, and Fulton Elementary School. The campus is less than 2 miles from Clinton, Iowa, which lies just across the Mississippi River, and 25 miles northwest of Sterling, Illinois. The school serves a mixed small city, village, and rural residential community. The school lies within the Sterling micropolitan statistical area. Fulton High School is a secondary school in Knoxville, Tennessee, opened in 1951. It has adopted the Small Learning Community model. History Founding In the 1940s the Knoxville City School System served the city's high school students in three schools - Knoxville High School, Rule High School, and Stair Technical High School. The majority of these students attended Knoxville High, a facility that was greatly in need of renovation if it was to continue housing 2,000 plus students. In lieu of this expenditure, the school board and the city council voted to build a new high school in each geographical area of the city. Thomas N. Johnston, principal of Stair Tech, was to become the principal of the new school in the north area.
