Fullers, New York
Fullers is a hamlet in the town of Guilderland, Albany County, New York, United States. The hamlet lies along U.S. Route 20 (Western Turnpike). History Fullers owes its origins, name, and early growth to the Fuller family. Major John Fuller of the New York State Militia owned a homestead and tavern here, and the station of the West Shore Railroad, along with the post office, were called Fuller's Station in his honor. His son, Aaron Fuller, Guilderland town supervisor and New York State Assemblyman, is credited with using his great influence and effort on growing the hamlet. Fuller was the only Democrat elected as town supervisor for over a century. In 1799, the Great Western Turnpike was built, connecting Albany with the western frontier and in 1882, the West Shore Railroad would build its tracks crossing the turnpike on its way from Ravena and Voorheesville to Schenectady. Guilderland Center, New York
Guilderland Center is a hamlet in the town of Guilderland, Albany County, New York, United States. The hamlet lies along New York Route 146 and the Black Creek, a tributary of the Normans Kill. History Guilderland Center includes the factories established at French's Mills, the first of these was built in 1795 by Peter Broeck. The name French's Mills (also referred to as French's Hollow) comes from Abel French, who established a mill of his own here in 1800. French's Hollow and the mills were mostly destroyed when the Black Creek was dammed for the creation of the Watervliet Reservoir in 1916. Abel French's Mill was razed and became the site of the pumping station. Guilderland Center was originally called by the locals Bang-all, in reference to ill effects and reputation that rum, horse racing, and the rough manners of the place brought. Fort Hunter is a hamlet in the town of Guilderland, Albany County, New York, United States. Fort Hunter lies along New York Route 146 near the Albany-Schenectady county line. Exit 25 of the Governor Thomas E. Dewey Thruway and exit 9B of Interstate 890 is at the northern limits of the hamlet. History The area of Fort Hunter was a part of the Pine Bush pine barrens, which once stretched west across Albany County from Albany to Schenectady. Altamont is a village located in the town of Guilderland in Albany County, New York, United States. The village is in the western part of the town. The population was 1,720 at the 2010 census. The name means "high mountain." History In colonial times, this area was part of the Manor of Rensselaerwyck, granted by the Dutch West India Company to Killian Van Rensselaer in 1630. The area was known as Hellerburgh in the early 18th century. In the early 19th century Knowersville, was established in the rural part of Albany County, just below the Helderberg Mountains. Schenectady () is a city in Schenectady County, New York, United States, of which it is the county seat. Voorheesville is a village within the town of New Scotland in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of Albany and part of the city's historic metropolitan area. The population was 2,789 at the 2010 census. The village is named after a railroad attorney, Alonzo B. Voorhees. The village is situated by the northern town line of New Scotland. Ravena is a village in Albany County, New York, United States. The population was 3,271 in the 2020 census an increase of 3 over the 2010 census. The village is in the southeast part of the town of Coeymans. History The village of Ravena incorporated in 1914. Prior to its incorporation, it was known as "Coeymans Junction," but the name was changed to "Ravena" to avoid confusion with another hamlet in the town, " Coeymans Landing." In 1894, a post office was established in Coeymans Junction bearing the name ''Ravena''. The name source of the post office (and ultimately the village) is unclear. Some believe that the village's proximity to cliffs on its western boundary lent to the area being referred to as ''the ravine''.
