Fulgencio Yegros
Fulgencio Yegros y Franco de Torres (born 1780 in Quyquyhó, died 1821) was Paraguayan soldier and first head of state of independent Paraguay. The town of Yegros is named in his honor. Life Yegros was born to a family of military tradition and also pursued a military career. Grandson of governor Fulgencio Yegros y Ledesma, he studied in Asunción and joined the Spanish colonial army. He had his first combat experiences in 1802 against the Portuguese and in 1807 when he was part of the Paraguayan forces that defended Buenos Aires during British invasions of the Río de la Plata. He reached the rank of captain in 1810 and was given the governorship of Misiones. Ruth Aguilar Fulgencio (born 3 February 1975) is a Spanish Paralympic athletics competitor who has represented Spain at the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Prior to fracturing her spine in a traffic accident, she represented Spain as a member of the national u-17 handball team. Personal Aguilar was born on 3 February 1975 in Torrent, Valencia, and attended Colegio Público Miguel Hernández. Before fracturing her spine in a car accident in December 1992, she played handball. She represented Spain internationally in handball at the under 17 level. She played club handball as a goalball for Urbana Valencia. As an athlete with a disability, sports she initially tried included swimming, wheelchair basketball and powerlifting. Aguilar took a break from competitive sport at one point to give birth to her son. Edgardo Fulgencio (29 October 1917 – 28 October 2004) is a Filipino former basketball player who competed in the 1948 Summer Olympics. Ding, as he is called by his friends before he was teased 'kalembang', started his basketball career in 1933 at the age of 16. Fulgencio transferred to Jose Rizal College and made the team in 1937. Then came the last war and at the age of 24, Ding was recruited by Skip Guinto, son of then Mayor Leon Guinto to join the Manila Flatties team along with Bobby Jones, Totong Martinez, Franco Marquicias, Felicisimo Fajardo and Guinto himself. It was a strong team that ruled all tournaments in Manila during the Japanese Occupation. In 1946, Fulgencio joined the famed Maurice Enterprise squad and his team won their first MICAA championship by defeating the star-studded Sampaguita Pictures quintet.
