Fujian Pond Turtle
The Fujian pond turtle (''"Mauremys" × iversoni'') is a possibly also naturally occurring intergeneric hybrid turtle in the family Geoemydidae (formerly Bataguridae) produced in larger numbers by Chinese turtle farms as a "copy" of the golden coin turtle ''Cuora trifasciata''. It appears to occur in China and Vietnam. Before its actual origin became known, it was listed as data deficient in the IUCN Red List. The parents of this hybrid are the Asian yellow pond turtle and the golden coin turtle, with the male apparently usually of the latter species. While it is not unusual for perfectly valid geoemydid species to arise from hybridization, recognition as a species would require that the hybrids are fertile and constitute a phenotypically distinct and self-sustaining lineage. Peter Pritchard
Peter Charles Howard Pritchard (June 26, 1943 – February 25, 2020) was a leading turtle zoologist. Pritchard was educated at Oxford University and the University of Florida, where he received a Ph.D. and specialized in Zoology. He was most commonly known for his career of almost 40 years for the conservation of turtles. He worked with the World Wildlife Fund, spending four years there before joining Audubon Florida in 1973 as assistant executive director, senior vice president and acting president. In 1997, he founded a turtle conservation organization called the Chelonian Research Institute in Oviedo, Florida. Scott A. Thomson, curator of the Chelonian Research Institute notes that the CRI has 14500 tortoise and turtle specimens registered with some 2000 unregistered specimens. Ocadia Glyphistoma
''"Mauremys" glyphistoma'' is a hybrid turtle in the family Geoemydidae (formerly Bataguridae). Originally described as a new species supposedly endemic to Guangxi/China; it was classified as Data Deficient in the IUCN Red List. It is known only from a few specimens including the type series, all from the pet trade supposedly from Guangxi or Vietnam. Either found in the wild or bred for the pet trade, it was later determined to be the offspring of a male Chinese stripe-necked turtle and a female Vietnamese pond turtle (Spinks et al. (2004), Stuart & Parham (2006)).
