Frölundaborg is an indoor arena located in the Frölunda borough of Gothenburg, Sweden. Frölundaborg is primarily used as an indoor venue for ice hockey games. It has a capacity of 7,600 people. The attendance record is 10,244, set in 1970. It also has been used when the main arena, Scandinavium, has been scheduled for other activities. This has been the case several times for unplanned matches, such as when Frölunda HC played in the Swedish Championship finals. It also serves as a venue for handball events. The Frölundaborg, along with the Scandinavium, will be a venue hosting the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship in Gothenburg. It will host games in Pool B. History Frölundaborg cost 6.3 million SEK (Swedish Krona) to build in 1967. Since then, 4.9 million SEK has been invested in the facility, which was valued to 3.7 million SEK in the beginning of 2006. 2024 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships
The 2024 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships (''2024 WJHC'') will be the 48th edition of the Ice Hockey World Junior Championship. It will begin on December 26, 2023 and will end with the gold medal game being played on January 5, 2024. This marks the seventh time that Sweden will host the WJIHC, and the first time in Gothenburg. Background On March 14, 2019, it was announced that Gothenburg would be the host city for 2022. Frölunda Hockey Club, previously known as the Frölunda Indians, is a Swedish professional ice hockey club based in Gothenburg. They currently play in the highest Swedish league, the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), formerly the Elitserien, where they have played for most of the club's existence. They last played in the lower division, the Allsvenskan, in 1995. Frölunda have won the national championship title five times: in 1965, 2003, 2005, 2016 and 2019. The club was founded on 3 February 1938, as an ice hockey section in Västra Frölunda IF and became independent on 29 March 1984. Prior to the 1995/1996 season, the nickname Indians was adopted.
