Fréquence3 is a French webradio station. History In 1998, founder Alexandre Martinat began broadcasting a weekly program on Saturday nights, and assembled a team to turn the show into a 24-hour radio station. Frequence3 was founded by this group on 15 April 2001, on the basis of an initial webradio called "Europe3". It was later renamed ''Fréquence3'', as the first name was already registered. At that time, only 30 listeners could listen to the station at once. In 2002, the station developed technically with the addition of new servers for more users to listen, and a mobile antenna to cover events outside the studio, and had its first guests. The Frequence3 operation relocated to France from Belgium. Frequence3 was a leading organisation in the launch of the National Association of France Webradios on 14 March 2006, to promote recognition of the medium. Online radio (also web radio, net radio, streaming radio, e-radio, IP radio, Internet radio) is a digital audio service transmitted via the Internet. Broadcasting on the Internet is usually referred to as webcasting since it is not transmitted broadly through wireless means. It can either be used as a stand-alone device running through the Internet, or as a software running through a single computer. Internet radio is generally used to communicate and easily spread messages through the form of talk. Freebox
The Freebox is an ADSL-VDSL-FTTH modem and a set-top box that the French Internet service provider named Free (part of the Iliad group) provides to its DSL-FTTH subscribers. Its main use is as a high-end fixed and wireless modem (802.11g MIMO), but it also allows Free to offer additional services over ADSL, such as IPTV including high definition (1080p), Video recording with timeshifting capabilities, digital radio and VoIP telephone service via one RJ-11 connector (the first version came with 2 such jacks but only one was ever activated) The Freebox is provided free to the subscribers, its value being 190 Euros, according to the operator. It is delivered with a remote control, a multimedia box equipped with a 250 GB hard drive, and accessories (cables and filters). Radio Stations In France
Compared to other European nations, the French are not avid newspaper readers, citing only 164 adults out of every 1000 as newspaper readers. The French press was healthiest in the aftermath of World War II. A year after the end of the war, 28 papers had a combined circulation of about 7 million. However, seven years later that figure had been nearly halved. This decline was principally due to the greater popularity of the broadcast media and the subsequent diversion of advertising revenues. Since 2000 newly produced free papers have further weakened the established press. Still, 80 daily papers remain, and there are a wide range of weeklies, many of which now feature internet sites. Regional papers have remained relatively unaffected by the decline, with provincial newspapers commanding a higher degree of reader loyalty.
