Frédéric Plesius
Frédéric Plesius (born February 10, 1988) is a professional Canadian football linebacker who is currently a free agent. He most recently played for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Plesius made his professional debut for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2013. He has also been a member of the Philadelphia Eagles and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. College career Plesius first played for the Baylor University Bears, where he was a redshirt in 2008. He then played CIS football with the Laval Rouge et Or where he was a two-time Vanier Cup champion in 2010 and 2012. Laval, Quebec
Laval (; ) is a city in Quebec, Canada. It is in the southwest of the province, north of Montreal. It is the largest suburb of Montreal, the third-largest city in the province after Montreal and Quebec City, and the thirteenth largest city in Canada with a population of 422,993 in 2016. Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university. However, in a redshirt year, student athletes may attend classes at the college or university, practice with an athletic team, and "suit up" (wear a team uniform) for play – but they may compete in only a limited number of games (see " Use of status" section). Using this mechanism, a student athlete has at most five academic years to use the four years of eligibility, thus becoming what is termed a fifth-year senior. 2020 CFL Season
The 2020 CFL season would have been the 67th season of modern-day Canadian football. Officially, it would have been the 63rd season of the Canadian Football League. It was originally scheduled to begin on June 11; on April 7, the start of the season was delayed to begin no sooner than July due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada. The CFL planned to obtain financial assistance from the federal government. In May, the CFL delayed the season to no sooner than September, and announced that the Grey Cup was to be played as a home advantage game rather than as a neutral site game in Regina, Saskatchewan, as originally planned. In July, the CFL announced plans to tentatively play all games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, as a "hub city". Nicholas Shortill (born November 16, 1992) is a professional Canadian football linebacker who is currently a free agent. He was most recently a member of the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Early life He was raised in Nobleton, Ontario, and attended McMaster University where he played for four years for the McMaster Marauders football team. Professional career Shortill was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes with the 13th pick in the 2015 CFL Draft and played for the Alouettes in 35 games over two years. He was traded to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats where he spent three years with the team. Upon entering free agency, on February 11, 2020, Shortill signed with the Toronto Argonauts. U Sports (stylized as U SPORTS) is the national sport governing body of university sport in Canada, comprising the majority of degree-granting universities in the country. The 2012 CFL Draft took place on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 3:00 PM ET on TSN. 45 players were chosen from among eligible players from Canadian Universities across the country, as well as Canadian players playing in the NCAA. The Calgary Stampeders had the most selections with eight, while Hamilton had seven picks. The Toronto Argonauts and Montreal Alouettes each had six and the Edmonton Eskimos and Winnipeg Blue Bombers had five picks. The defending Grey Cup champion BC Lions and the Saskatchewan Roughriders had the fewest selections with just four. The 2011 CIS football season began on September 1, 2011, with the Montreal Carabins hosting the McGill Redmen at CEPSUM Stadium.
