Frost Bank Tower (San Antonio)
City Tower is a skyscraper in downtown San Antonio, in the U.S. state of Texas. The 22-story building previously served as the headquarters for Frost Bank from 1975 to 2019 until Frost Bank moved into the eponymously named Frost Tower. In 2015 the city of San Antonio acquired the building for $52.9 million and has allotted $88 million for renovations to the building. Upon completion of the renovations the building will consolidate 24 city departments and 1,400 city employees and will serve as the main office building for the city of San Antonio. Charles Luckman
Charles Luckman (May 16, 1909 – January 26, 1999) was an American businessman, property developer, and architect known for designing landmark buildings in the United States such as the Theme Building, Prudential Tower, Madison Square Garden, and The Forum. He was named the "Boy Wonder of American Business" by Time magazine when president of the Pepsodent toothpaste company in 1939. Through acquisition, he later became president of Lever Brothers. Luckman would later collaborate with William Pereira, in which the two would form their architectural firm, Pereira & Luckman, in 1950. Pereira & Luckman would later dissolve by 1958, parting ways for both himself and Pereira. Luckman would continue successfully with his own firm, Charles Luckman Associates. Frost Bank is a Texas-chartered bank based in San Antonio with 155 branches and 1,700 automated teller machines, all of which are in Texas. It is the primary subsidiary of Cullen/Frost Bankers, Inc., a bank holding company. It is on the list of largest banks in the United States. History Early years Frost Bank was founded in 1868 as a mercantile partnership in San Antonio by Thomas Claiborne Frost, who had served as a lieutenant colonel in the Confederate States Army. The Frost Tower is a 23-story skyscraper in San Antonio, Texas, USA. It opened in 2019 at a cost of $142 million and is the first new office tower built in downtown San Antonio since 1989 when Weston Centre was built. Frost Tower replaced the old Frost Bank Tower as the headquarters of the eponymously named Frost Bank when it opened in 2019.
