Front Illustrated Paper
''Front'' was an illustrated weekly newspaper published by the ''Military Publishing and Press Center'' (''Vojnoizdavački i novinski centar'') of the Yugoslav People's Army. The paper was first published on 25 February 1945. Serving as a reporting tool for the Syrmian Front and other areas of military operations during final phases of the Yugoslav liberation war. It was published in all of the languages of the newly re-constituted country. The publisher's address was: ''Nedeljni Ilustrovani List Front'' (Weekly Illustrated Paper – Front), 11001 Beograd, Ulica Svetozara Markovića 70. In 1975, by edict of the President of the Republic, Marshal Josip Broz (Tito), ''Front'' was awarded the Order of the Brotherhood and Unity with golden wreath (I. rank). Yugoslav People's Army
The Yugoslav People's Army (abbreviated as JNA/; Macedonian and sr-Cyrl-Latn, Југословенска народна армија, Jugoslovenska narodna armija; Croatian and bs, Jugoslavenska narodna armija; sl, Jugoslovanska ljudska armada, JLA), also called the Yugoslav National Army, was the military of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and its antecedents from 1945 to 1992. Origins The origins of the JNA started during the Yugoslav Partisans of World War II. Territorial Defense Forces (Yugoslavia)
The Territorial Defense ( sh, Територијална Oдбрана / , TO for short) was a component of the armed forces of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia that was the primary means of organized armed resistance against an enemy under the Constitution of Yugoslavia. The forces acted as a Home or National Guard which roughly corresponded to a military reserve force or an official governmental paramilitary. Similar to the US National Guard, each of the Yugoslav constituent republics had its own Territorial Defense military formations, to remain separate from the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA), which also maintained its own reserve forces and could take command of Territorial Defense in case of war. The Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, commonly referred to as SFR Yugoslavia or simply as Yugoslavia, was a country in Central and Southeast Europe. It emerged in 1945, following World War II, and lasted until 1992, with the breakup of Yugoslavia occurring as a consequence of the Yugoslav Wars. Syrmian Front
The Syrmian Front ( sh, Srijemski front/Sremski front) was an Axis line of defense during World War II. It was established as part of the Eastern Front in late October 1944 in Syrmia and east Slavonia, northwest of Belgrade. After the Yugoslav Partisans and the Red Army expelled the Germans from Belgrade in the Belgrade Offensive, the retreating Wehrmacht and the Croatian Armed Forces used fortifications to protect the withdrawal of German Army Group E from the Balkans. With help from their Soviet allies, the Partisans (by then recognized as the Yugoslav army), joined by Bulgarian and Italian forces, fought a difficult winter campaign and finally broke through the front on 12 April 1945.
