Fritz Poock
Carl Rudolph "Fritz" Poock (February 20, 1877 – January 2, 1945) was an American artist born in Germany. He was a noted practitioner of the California Plein-Air Painting, Plein-Air Painting style, an important movement in pre-World War II Southern California, and a part of the influential Artists of the Arroyo Seco (Los Angeles), Arroyo Seco art scene. Early life Fritz Poock was born in Halberstadt, Germany in 1877. He studied with Francisco del Marmol of Spain. Move to Los Angeles In 1905, Poock moved to Los Angeles, eventually settling in the Highland Park, Los Angeles, Highland Park neighborhood. He worked in construction — including a stint at Manzanillo, Colima, Manzanillo, Mexico, where he also painted — and as a mechanical drafter until retiring at age 50 to devote himself full-time to painting. Halberstadt
Halberstadt ( Eastphalian: ''Halverstidde'') is a town in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, the capital of Harz district. Located north of the Harz mountain range, it is known for its old town center that was greatly destroyed by Allied bombings in late stages of World War II after local Nazi leaders refused to surrender. The town was rebuilt in the following decades. In World War I, Halberstadt was the site of a German military airbase and aircraft manufacturing facilities. In World War II, Halberstadt was a regional production center for Junkers aircraft, which also housed an SS forced labor camp. Halberstadt now encompasses the area where the Langenstein-Zwieberge concentration camp existed. Southwest Museum Of The American Indian
The Southwest Museum of the American Indian is a museum, library, and archive located in the Mt. Washington neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, above the north-western bank of the Arroyo Seco (Los Angeles County) canyon and stream. The museum is owned by the Autry Museum of the American West. Its collections deal mainly with Native Americans. It also has an extensive collection of pre-Hispanic, Spanish colonial, Latino, and Western American art and artifacts. Major collections had included American Indians of the Great Plains, American Indians of California, and American Indians of the Northwest Coast. Most of those materials were moved off-site, but the Southwest Museum has maintained an ongoing public exhibition on Pueblo pottery, open free of charge.
