Friends And Lovers (Bernard Butler Album)
''Friends and Lovers'' is the second studio album by English singer-songwriter Bernard Butler, released on 25 October 1999 through Creation Records. Recorded between November 1998 and February 1999, Butler produced the sessions at RAK Studios in London, before moving to Chipping Norton Recording Studios in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, and finishing at Konk Studios in London. Described as a pop rock release, ''Friends and Lovers'' had been compared to the works of Mott the Hoople, Small Faces and Spooky Tooth. ''Friends and Lovers'' received generally favourable reviews from critics, several of whom considered it an improvement on ''People Move On''. It peaked at number 43 in the United Kingdom, while only one of its singles charted, namely " You Must Go On" at number 44. " Friends & Lovers" was released as the lead singl ...

The Face (magazine)
''The Face'' is a British music, fashion, and culture monthly magazine originally published from 1980 to 2004, and relaunched in 2019. It was first launched in May 1980 in London by Nick Logan, the British journalist who had previously been editor of ''New Musical Express'' and ''Smash Hits''. Having narrowly survived a near closure in the early 1990s following the award of libel damages against the magazine, it finally ceased publication in 2004 as a result of dwindling circulation. Frequently referred to as having "changed culture" and credited with launching Kate Moss's career as a supermodel, the magazine was the subject of a number of museum exhibitions after its demise. In April 2019 ''The Face'' was relaunched online at theface.com by current owner Wasted Talent, which also publishes the magazines ''Kerrang!'' and ''Mixmag'' and acquired rights to the title in 2017 from Bauer Media Group. The first physical issue of the new era was published on 13 September 2019. Pr ...

Background The song begins with a gentle acoustic guitar, which leads into Butler's vocals. Drums, electric guitar, keyboards and backing vocals all get introduced gradually, before coming together in one last climax and quiet coda.Raggett, Ned. "Stay single review" AllMusic. Butler has said that "Stay" is not a love song but a song about change. "The process of change is hard but you've got to do it. It's about when you know you've got to do something but there's an element of risk. It's about when I first went to France to record. A lot of the lyrics come from a conversation with Elisa, my wife. I wrote them on the train over to France." The music video for the title song was directed by David Mould, whose directing credits include Suede's "Trash", the first single released after Butler's dep ...

AllMusic
AllMusic (previously known as All Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Initiated in 1991, the database was first made available on the Internet in 1994. AllMusic is owned by RhythmOne. History AllMusic was launched as ''All Music Guide'' by Michael Erlewine, a "compulsive archivist, noted astrologer, Buddhist scholar and musician". He became interested in using computers for his astrological work in the mid-1970s and founded a software company, Matrix, in 1977. In the early 1990s, as CDs replaced LPs as the dominant format for recorded music, Erlewine purchased what he thought was a CD of early recordings by Little Richard. After buying it he discovered it was a "flaccid latter-day rehash". Frustrated with the labeling, he researched using metadata to create a music guide. In 1990, in Big Rapids, Michigan, he founded ''All Music Guide' ...

The record was engineered by Nigel Godrich after working on Radiohead's ''The Bends''. The album was released during the peak of Britpop, which caused inevitable comparisons to other English female-fronted bands of the time such as Sleeper, who were frequently slated by music papers such as ''NME'' and ''Melody Maker''.
