Alexey Maksimovich Fridman (17 February 1940 – 29 October 2010) was a Soviet physicist specializing in astrophysics, physics of gravitating systems and plasma physics. He discovered new types of instabilities in gravitating media, created the theory of planetary rings and predicted the existence of small Uranus satellites that were later discovered. He also developed the hydrodynamic theory of spiral structure in galaxies. Fridman worked at the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, INASAN, and was professor at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and at Moscow State University. Gal Fridman (or Friedman, he, גל פרידמן; born September 16, 1975) is an Israeli windsurfer and Israel's first Olympic Games, Olympic gold medalist. Fridman is the remains of a lunar impact crater on the far side of the Moon. It lies due south of the huge walled plain Hertzsprung, and is attached to the northeastern rim of the crater Ioffe. This crater lies in the southern part of the ejecta blanket that encircles Hertzsprung, and in the west-northwestern part of the huge ejecta blanket surrounding the Mare Orientale impact basin. The outer rim of this crater is heavily damaged, with a number of smaller craters lying across the sides. The most intact portion of the rim is along the southeastern side.
