Friday Harbor High School
Friday Harbor High School is a four-year public high school located in Friday Harbor, Washington, USA. It is the only public high school on San Juan Island. Staff, students and culture Martin Yablonovsky has been the school's principal since 2020. The previous principals have included Fred Woods, Patricia Scott, Marilyn Luckman and Ralph Hahn. The school enrolls approximately 300 students annually. Their school mascot is the wolverine, and their colors are purple and gold. Funding FHHS is a Gates High Tech High School since it received a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation through thConnecting Schools and Communities(CSAC) project in Washington State. The grant is to ensure that more students leave high school ready for college, work, and civic contribution. Friday Harbor, Washington
Friday Harbor is a town in San Juan County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,162 at 2010 census. Located on San Juan Island, Friday Harbor is the major commercial center of the San Juan Islands archipelago and is the county seat of San Juan County. History In 1845 the Hudson's Bay Company laid claim to San Juan Island. In 1850 they built a salmon curing station. A few years later they started a sheep farm. The town's name originates from Joseph Poalie Friday, a native Hawaiian. Friday worked at the Pugets Sound Agricultural Company's Fort Cowlitz, from 1841 to 1859–60 and later moved north to San Juan Island, raising and herding sheep around the harbor. After the peaceful settlement obtained following the Pig War, the San Juan Islands became a separate county in 1873. Friday Harbor was named the county seat. National Ocean Sciences Bowl
The National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) is a national high-school science competition managed by the Consortium for Ocean Leadership. It follows a quiz-bowl format, with lockout buzzers and extended team challenge questions to test students on their knowledge of oceanography. Questions cover the fields of biology, chemistry, geology, geography, social science, technology, and physics. The purpose of the event is to increase knowledge of the ocean among high school students and, ultimately, magnify public understanding of ocean research. The annual competition was first held in 1998, the International Year of the Ocean. Twenty-five U.S. regions compete in the NOSB, each with its own regional competitions.
