Fresh Air (Edinburgh)
FreshAir (formerly 'FreshAir.org.uk') is an alternative music student radio station serving Edinburgh, Scotland. Launched on 3 October 1992, FreshAir is one of the oldest surviving student radio stations in the UK. The station won the "Student Radio Station of the Year" award at the Student Radio Association awards in 2004 & was Scottish Station of the year 2011 (Scottish New Music Awards). FreshAir is a registered student society with Edinburgh University Students' Association, but remains an independent body entirely funded by sponsorship and membership subscriptions. It broadcasts at FreshAir.radio. , the Station Manager is Peter Johnson. He succeeded Samuel MacLeod, who occupied the position from Autumn 2020 to Summer 2022. The ''Edinburgh Evening News'' is a daily newspaper and website based in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was founded by John Wilson (1844–1909) and first published in 1873. It is printed daily, except on Sundays. It is owned by JPIMedia, which also owns ''The Scotsman''. Much of the content of the ''Evening News'' concerns local issues such as transport, health, the local council and crime in Edinburgh and the Lothians. The paper has a significant number of journalists covering sport, with a dedicated reporter assigned to each of the city's football teams, Heart of Midlothian and Hibernian. The Pleasance
The Pleasance is a theatre, bar, sports and recreation complex in Edinburgh, Scotland, situated on a street of the same name. It is owned by the University of Edinburgh, and for nine months of the year it serves the Edinburgh University Students' Association as a societies centre, sports complex, student union bar and entertainment venue. Every August, it is converted into one of the main venues for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The Pleasance Theatre Trust operate the venue during this time, and in this guise the complex is sometimes referred to as Pleasance Edinburgh to distinguish it from a sister venue, also called The Pleasance, that the trust opened in Islington in London in 1995. College Radio Day
College Radio Day, is an event conceived by Rob Quicke, General Manager of WPSC at William Paterson University. The company was founded in December 2010. The first event was held on October 11, 2011 with subsequent CRD events happening in the first week of October every year. In October 2014, it was announced that College Radio Day was now being run as part of a newly formed non-profit organization called the College Radio Foundation. The aim of the event is to “raise a greater, national awareness of the many college and high school radio stations that operate in North America by encouraging people who would not normally listen to college radio to do so on this day.” This first event had over 360 participating college and high school radio stations in America, Canada and Jamaica. Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) is a British music copyright collective. It is a private limited company that is registered in the UK. PPL was founded by Decca Records and EMI and incorporated on 12 May 1934, and undertakes collective rights management of sound recordings on behalf of its record-company members, and distributes the fees collected to both its record company (rights holder) members and performer members. As of 2019, PPL collected royalties for over 110,000 performers and recording rightsholders.
