French River Provincial Park
The French River (french: Rivière des Français, oj, Wemitigoj-Sibi) is a river in Central Ontario, Canada. It flows from Lake Nipissing west to Georgian Bay. The river largely follows the boundary between the Parry Sound District and the Sudbury District, and in most contexts is considered the dividing line between Northern and Southern Ontario. The French River was designated a Canadian Heritage River in 1986. Geography The French River flows through typical Canadian Shield country, in many places exposing rugged glaciated rock but also through heavily forested areas on the upper portion. The mouth of the river contains countless islands and numerous channels which vary from narrow, enclosed steep-walled gorges, falls and rapids, to broad expanses of open water. Ontario Highway 69
King's Highway 69, commonly referred to as Highway 69, is a provincially maintained north–south highway in the central portion of the Canadian province of Ontario. In conjunction with Highway 400, it links Toronto with the city of Greater Sudbury at Highway 17, via Parry Sound. It is part of the Trans-Canada Highway and the National Highway System. From its southern terminus of Highway 559 at Carling, Highway69 begins as Highway400 narrows from a four-laned freeway to a two lane highway. It travels northerly for approximately to south of the French River before widening back to a divided four lane freeway for approximately into Sudbury. The final of the route, connecting to Highway17, is a five lane arterial road that will be converted to freeway as the final phase of the four-laning. Glaciated Rock
A glaciated rock is a rock that shows evidence of having been exposed to a glacier. Generally it has striations or deep scratches, caused more by the debris being carried by the glacier than by the ice itself. Glaciated rocks may also be erratics - that is, not belonging to the local rocks but having been transported there by the glacier. Where a present-day glacier is retreating, its former extent can be measured by distribution of the glaciated rocks.
