Jessie Ann Benton Frémont (May 31, 1824 – December 27, 1902) was an American writer and political activist. She was the daughter of Missouri Senator Thomas Hart Benton and the wife of military officer, explorer, and politician John C. Frémont. She wrote many stories that were printed in popular magazines of the time as well as several books of historical value. Her writings, which helped support her family during times of financial difficulty, were memoirs of her time in the American West. A strong supporter of her husband, who was one of the first two senators of the new U.S. state of California and a governor of the Territory of Arizona, she was outspoken on political issues and a determined opponent of slavery, which was excluded in the formation of California. Fremont Cole (September 18, 1856 Covert, New York, Covert, Seneca County, New York – November 15, 1915 Little Neck, Queens, New York City) was an American lawyer and politician. Fremont Older (August 30, 1856 – March 3, 1935) was a newspaperman and editor in San Francisco, California for nearly 50 years. He is best known for his campaigns against civic corruption, capital punishment, prison reform, and efforts on behalf of Tom Mooney and Warren Billings, wrongly convicted of the Preparedness Day bombing of 1916. Career Born in a log house in Appleton, Wisconsin, Older began working at age 12 circa 1868 as an apprentice printer. He claimed that this was after reading the story of Horace Greeley. He worked in Virginia City, Nevada, on the ''Enterprise'', then moved on to the '' Redwood City Journal'', later writing for the ''Alta California''. Arthur Fremont Rider (May 25, 1885 – October 26, 1962) was an American writer, poet, editor, inventor, genealogist, and librarian. He studied under Melvil Dewey, of whom he wrote a biography for the ALA. Throughout his life he wrote in several genres including plays, poetry, short stories, non-fiction and an auto-biography which he wrote in the third-person. In the early 20th century he became a noted editor and publisher, working on such publications as ''Publishers Weekly'' and the '' Library Journal.'' In 1933 he became a librarian at Wesleyan University, eventually becoming director of the university's Olin Memorial Library and afterwards founding the Godfrey Memorial Library of genealogy and history in 1947. Fremont Wood
Fermont Wood (1856–1940) was an American lawyer and government official who served as the United States Attorney for Idaho Territory from 1889 to 1894. Previous to this he served as the Assistant District Attorney for Idaho Territory from 1881 to 1886. He was a private attorney in Boise during the early 1880s before becoming city solicitor, serving from 1883 to 1884. Wood graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine before entering into private law practice. After retiring from the U.S. Department of Justice, Wood was elected a state judge in Idaho's third district. He presided over the 1907 murder trial of Bill Haywood.
