Fremantle Football Hall Of Legends
The Fremantle Football Hall of Legends was inaugurated by the Fremantle Football Club in 1995, in recognition of the new Australian Football League team's links with its home city's football heritage. The inductees are nominated by the two clubs from the Fremantle area in the West Australian Football League: East Fremantle and South Fremantle. Fremantle Football Club
The Fremantle Football Club, nicknamed the Dockers, is a professional Australian rules football club competing in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's elite competition. The team was founded in 1994 to represent the port city of Fremantle, a stronghold of Australian rules football in Western Australia. The Dockers were the second team from the state to be admitted to the competition, following the West Coast Eagles in 1987. Both Fremantle and the West Coast Eagles are owned by the West Australian Football Commission (WAFC), with a board of directors operating Fremantle on the commission's behalf. John Gerovich
John Gerovich (born John Mateo Gerecivich, 23 June 1938) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with South Fremantle in the Western Australian National Football League (WANFL - now WAFL) during the 1950s and 1960s. Playing career Gerovich was a key-position forward, best known for high-flying marks and his prolific goalkicking. One famous mark, which he took in the 1956 WANFL preliminary final over East Fremantle's Ray French, is commemorated in a statue at Fremantle Oval by local sculptor Robert Hitchcock. The statue was based on an iconic photograph of the mark, taken by ''The West Australian'' photographer Maurie Hammond and published on Wednesday, 10 October 1956. The mark is also depicted in Jamie Cooper's painting ''the Game That Made Australia'', commissioned by the AFL in 2008 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the sport. George Grljusich
George Ned Grljusich (15 January 1939 – 6 November 2007) was an Australian sports journalist, commentator and former Australian rules footballer. Born in Wiluna, Western Australia, he played 12 games of football for the South Fremantle Football Club in the Western Australian National Football League in 1960, before quitting football to pursue a media career. Grljusich later became a radio broadcaster, commentating for Perth-based radio stations 720 ABC Perth and 6PR. He died in 2007 at the age of 68, from lung cancer. Education Grljusich studied Law at the University of Western Australia, where he graduated in the same year as the future Chief Justice David Malcolm, Crown Solicitor (WA), Peter Panegyres and Governor of Western Australia, Malcolm McCusker, but decided to remain in the media rather than practice law. Jerry Dolan
John "Jerry" Dolan (25 December 1901 – 26 December 1986) was an Australian rules footballer and coach in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) before becoming a politician. He played for as well as coached East Fremantle and was also a coach at East Perth. After leaving football, Dolan served as a member of the Western Australian Legislative Council. Dolan originally played in the Goldfields Football Association with Kalgoorlie City and was recruited to East Fremantle after two seasons. He was used mostly as a centre half forward in his time at East Fremantle and participated in their 1925, 1928, 1929 and 1931 premiership teams. Dolan also played in their 1930 and 1933 premiership sides, as captain-coach. He represented Western Australia at the 1924 Hobart Carnival and captain-coached his state in the 1933 Sydney Carnival. Maurice Rioli
Maurice Joseph Rioli Sr. (1 September 195725 December 2010) was an Australian rules footballer who represented St Mary's Football Club in the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL), in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and in the Victorian Football League. Acknowledged as one of the greatest players of his era, Rioli was one of the first Indigenous Australian footballers to have a significant impact on Victorian football, and was named in the centre for the Indigenous Team of the Century. Carlisle Jarvis
Carlisle Melrose Byron Jarvis (10 December 1906 – 6 November 1979) was an Australian rules footballer at East Fremantle in the West Australian National Football League (WANFL). Jarvis spent twelve seasons with East Fremantle where he was a specialist defender. "Bub" Jarvis had his best year in 1934 where he was runner up in the Sandover Medal count and won a Lynn Medal. Duje Tomy "Tom" Grljusich (born 13 August 1940) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for South Fremantle in the Western Australian National Football League and Central District in the South Australian National Football League. Three of his brothers played league football – George and Don for South Fremantle and John for East Fremantle. Playing career Taking up playing football as an 18-year-old in 1958 for Cockburn Ex Scholars, he won the best and fairest award in his first year. Doug Green (footballer)
Doug Green (born 28 October 1951) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for East Fremantle in the WANFL during the 1970s. He also spent a season with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League. Green, a defender, was used mostly across half back from his East Fremantle debut in 1970. He won a Lynn Medal in 1973 as East Fremantle's 'Best and fairest' player and finished runner-up in the award on six occasions over the course of his career. Green was at centre half back in their 1974 premiership side and became club captain in 1975, replacing Graham Melrose. He played in his second premiership in 1979, with the Grand Final being his last game for East Fremantle. Despite announcing his retirement in 1979, he was lured back into action by South Melbourne whom he joined halfway through the 1980 VFL season. Brian Ciccotosto
Brian Ciccotosto (born 6 April 1948) is a former Australian rules footballer who played 211 games with South Fremantle Football Club, South Fremantle in the West Australian Football League, WANFL during the 1960s and 1970s. A rover, Ciccotosto made his debut for South Fremantle in the 1967 season. He kicked four goals in their 1970 Grand Final win over Perth and was awarded the Simpson Medal. Two years later he represented Western Australia at the 1972 Perth Carnival, Perth Carnival and was included in the All-Australian team. He played in a total of five games for his state and in the same year as the Perth Carnival topped South Fremantle's goalkicking with 35 goals. James Francis Conway (14 June 1925 – 28 December 2003) was an Australian rules football player and coach. The winner of the 1950 Sandover Medal, Conway played 180 games for in the Western Australian National Football League (WANFL) between 1943 and 1956, also representing Western Australia in 15 interstate matches. In 1964, he was appointed coach of , a position which he held for five years, until 1968. He was inducted into the West Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2009. Frank Jenkins (footballer)
Frank William Thomas "Scranno" Jenkins (11 August 191823 May 1987) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Fremantle in the West Australian National Football League (WANFL). He is a member of the Fremantle Team of Legends. Jenkins played 150 games for South Fremantle, mostly at centre half back but also at centre half-forward and the centre, and had his career interrupted by the Second World War. He played his best football before the war, winning the Sandover Medal in his debut season of 1937 with a record high 34 votes, which remained a record for 44 years until Stephen Michael polled 37 votes in 1981. He came close to winning back to back Sandover Medals when he finished runner up to Haydn Bunton in 1938 and also won three consecutive best and fairest awards for South Fremantle between 1937 and 1939.
