Freefall EP
''Freefall'' is the debut EP by Chapterhouse released in 1990. Its first track, "Falling Down", was used as part of their debut album, '' Whirlpool''. The other tracks were released on the 2006 reissue of ''Whirlpool'' along with ''Sunburst'' and the "Pearl" single. Reception Allmusic writer Ned Raggett described "Falling Down" as a "fantastic opener" with "swirling, sweet vocals underscored by a punchy (but not quite as electronic and crisp) funk rhythm". Chapterhouse (band)
Chapterhouse were a British shoegaze band from Reading, Berkshire, England. Formed in 1987 by Andrew Sherriff and Stephen Patman, the band began performing alongside Spacemen 3. They released two albums: ''Whirlpool'' (1991) and '' Blood Music'' (1993). The group temporarily reformed in 2008 after being asked to join Ulrich Schnauss onstage to perform his cover version of their song "Love Forever" at the Truck Festival in Oxfordshire. The band finished the brief reunion with two gigs in London (2009–2010) and tours in North America and Japan in 2010. Career The band comprised Andrew Sherriff (b.16 May 1969, Wokingham, England), Stephen Patman (b. 8 November 1968, Windsor, Berkshire, England), Simon Rowe (b. 23 June 1969, Reading, Berkshire), Jon Curtis and Ashley Bates (b. 2 November 1971, Reading). Dream Pop
Dream pop (also typeset as dreampop) is a subgenre of alternative rock and neo-psychedelia that emphasizes atmosphere and sonic texture as much as pop melody. Common characteristics include breathy vocals, dense productions, and effects such as reverb, echo, tremolo, and chorus. It often overlaps with the related genre of shoegaze, and the two genre terms have at times been used interchangeably. The genre came into prominence in the 1980s through the work of groups such as Cocteau Twins and A.R. Kane. Subsequently, acts such as My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Galaxie 500, Julee Cruise, Lush, and Mazzy Star released significant albums in the style. Shoegaze (originally called shoegazing and sometimes conflated with "dream pop") is a subgenre of indie and alternative rock characterized by its ethereal mixture of obscured vocals, guitar distortion and effects, feedback, and overwhelming volume.Pete Prown / Harvey P. Dedicated was a British independent record label that released music between 1990 and 1998 by Spiritualized, Spacemen 3, Global Communication, Beth Orton (in the U.S.), Chapterhouse, Cranes and others. It was based in London and founded by Doug D'Arcy. Dedicated were bought by Arista Records who were in turn bought by Sony Music Entertainment. ''Sunburst'' is the second EP by English shoegazing band Chapterhouse. It features in the reissue of Chapterhouse's debut album '' Whirlpool'', released in 2006. ''Sunburst'' contains a track produced by Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins, as well as a cover version of The Beatles' song "Rain". Reception Allmusic writer Ned Raggett praised Guthrie's production on "Something More", and said while the ''Whirlpool'' version of the song "is equally good, it's a pity that this one was fairly obscure in comparison". Raggett also described the verse and chorus section of "Satin Safe" as "great modern guitar psych", and that Chapterhouse's version of "Rain", while not on par with the Beatles original, is "still a fun runthrough." ''Whirlpool'' is the debut studio album by English shoegaze band Chapterhouse. It was released on 29 April 1991 by Dedicated Records. Release ''Whirlpool'' was released on 29 April 1991 by Dedicated Records. It spent three weeks on the UK Albums Chart, peaking at number 23. "Pearl" was issued as the album's only single on 18 March 1991, reaching number 67 on the UK Singles Chart. Cherry Red Records reissued ''Whirlpool'' in 2006 with several bonus tracks taken from Chapterhouse's EPs ''Freefall'' and '' Sunburst'', both released in 1990, and the "Pearl" single. It also included, for the first time, printed lyrics for all of the album's songs. The initial and subsequent runs of the Cherry Red CD reissue were pressed using a lossy master source for tracks 1 to 9, 13 and 14. Sonic Youth
Sonic Youth was an American rock band based in New York City, formed in 1981. A chapter house or chapterhouse is a building or room that is part of a cathedral, monastery or collegiate church in which meetings are held.
