Free As A Bird (Supertramp Song)
"Free as a Bird" is the title track from Supertramp's 1987 album of the same name. Released as a single at the end of that year, the song achieved only marginal commercial success, with a top-25 showing on the Polish charts being a relative highlight. Overview The music video for "Free as a Bird" was produced by Sue Pemberton and directed by Michael Patterson and Candace Reckenger. '' Cash Box'' said that "Rick Davies sets an easy groove with his patented, bluesy keyboard style, and takes you to a gospel out-chorus." In 1988 "Free as a Bird" was performed on the Dutch pop music television series, ''TopPop''. In 2012, ''Something Else!'' ranked "Free as a Bird" as the 3rd worst song by Supertramp in their list of the 5 worst Supertramp songs, calling it ..."painful to listen to" and "Utterly uninspired". Supertramp
Supertramp were an English rock band that formed in London in 1969. Marked by the individual songwriting of founders Roger Hodgson (vocals, keyboards, and guitars) and Rick Davies (vocals and keyboards), they are distinguished for blending progressive rock and pop styles as well as for a sound that relied heavily on Wurlitzer electric piano. The group's lineup changed numerous times throughout their career, with Davies being the only consistent member throughout the decades. Other longtime members included bassist Dougie Thomson, drummer Bob Siebenberg, and saxophonist John Helliwell. The band were initially a prog-rock group, but starting with their third album, ''Crime of the Century'' (1974), they began moving towards a more pop-oriented sound. It Was The Best Of Times
''It Was the Best of Times'' is the third live album by the English rock band Supertramp, released in April 1999. The album title makes use of the opening line from ''A Tale of Two Cities'' by Charles Dickens. Overview ''It Was the Best of Times'' was recorded in September 1997 at the Royal Albert Hall, London, England, UK during the "It's About Time" tour (set up in support of the '' Some Things Never Change'' studio album). The band includes vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Mark Hart performing songs originally sung by Roger Hodgson. Supertramp are also augmented by additional players added for this album and tour which later would also take part in the recording of ''Slow Motion'', the follow-up studio album released in 2002. The 2-CD version features the song "Don't You Lie to Me", a blues song that the band had performed on their 1988 tour and the only song not written by a current or former band member. Martin Kevin Walsh (born January 21, 1952) is an American guitarist, songwriter, arranger, composer and record producer. In 1979 Walsh had the opportunity to play on his first ''Billboard'' charting song, "Love Pains", by Yvonne Elliman. During his career as a session musician in the 1980s, Walsh participated as a guitarist on hits "I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool" by Barbara Mandrell, "9 to 5" by Dolly Parton, "She Works Hard for the Money" by Donna Summer and " Heartlight" by Neil Diamond. Mark Hart
Mark Hart (born July 2, 1953), is an American musician and multi-instrumentalist best known for being a member of both Supertramp (1986–1988, 1996–2002, 2015–present) and Crowded House (1993–1996, 2007–2019). As well as being a group member, touring and session musician for acts such as Ringo Starr, Hart has composed film scores and is a record producer. Biography Hart was born on July 2, 1953 in Fort Scott, Kansas and grew up there. He has an older brother, Kelly, and an older sister, Millicent. From the age of seven years, Hart received piano lessons and followed by learning guitar some years later. Hart studied classical music at college, and then worked as a full-time session musician with varied artists. In 1982 he formed which issued its debut eponymous album in 1984 on Warner Bros. Bob Siebenberg
Robert Layne Siebenberg (born October 31, 1949) also known as Bob C. Benberg, is an American musician, best known as a member of British progressive rock band Supertramp, playing drums and percussion. He was the sole American in Supertramp's lineup, joining the band in 1973. His son, Jesse, joined Supertramp at the time of the release of the live album '' It Was the Best of Times'' (live; 1999). In 1985, Siebenberg released a solo album called ''Giants in Our Own Room'' (and credited to "Siebenberg"), where he sings lead on half of the songs and also plays keyboards and drums. Joining Siebenberg on this record were Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy fame (Gorham was Siebenberg's brother-in-law from 1969 to 2000), Steve Farris of Mr. Mister, Procol Harum drummer B. J. Dougie Thomson
Douglas 'Doogie' Campbell Thomson (born 24 March 1951) is a Scottish musician, born in Glasgow and raised in the Rutherglen area of the city. Overview As Supertramp's first career retrospective, ''Retrospectacle'' contains a compilation of the most popular songs, live tracks and favourite album tracks from all of their albums from ''Supertramp'' to ''Slow Motion'', including the live albums ''Paris'' and ''It Was the Best of Times''. It was released as either a single disc or a double album. Also, ''Retrospectacle'' marks the first appearance on an album of the single "Land Ho" and its B-side "Summer Romance". The version of "Land Ho" used on the compilation is the 1975 remix which the band intended to use on ''Crisis?
