The Free Motherland - UCA Alliance ( hy, «Ազատ Հայրենիք - ՔՄԴ» դաշինք; ''Azat Hayrenik - KMD Dashink)'' is a political alliance formed by the Free Motherland and United Civic Alliance parties. The alliance was formed in January 2020, prior to the 2020 Artsakhian general election. The leader of the alliance is Arayik Harutyunyan. Composition The alliance is composed of the following parties: In addition, the alliance was supported and endorsed by the Artsakh Freedom Party, Movement 88, and the Armenakan Party. Free Motherland
Free Motherland ( hy, «Ազատ Հայրենիք» կուսակցություն, ''Azat Hayrenik kusaktsutyun'') abbreviated as ԱՀԿ or AHK is a political party in Artsakh. The party was formed on 29 January 2005. Initially, the party consisted of four co-presidents: Arayik Harutyunyan, Arthur Tovmasyan, Rudik Hyusnunts and Arpat Avanesyan. History The party was founded on 29 January 2005. The chairman of the party is former Prime Minister Araik Harutyunyan. The party participated in the 2005 Nagorno-Karabakh parliamentary election, after which the party received 10 out of 33 seats in the National Assembly. Following the 2010 Nagorno-Karabakh parliamentary election, the party won 14 seats in the National Assembly, both in direct and proportional electoral systems. Movement 88
Movement 88 () is a political party in Artsakh. History The party was part of an electoral alliance with the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, that won 3 out of 33 seats in the National Assembly following the 2005 Nagorno-Karabakh parliamentary election. The party did not participate in the 2010 Nagorno-Karabakh parliamentary election. The party decided to participate in the 2015 Nagorno-Karabakh parliamentary election receiving 6.93% of the popular vote and won two seats in the National Assembly. While the party decided not to participate in the 2020 Artsakhian general election, the party endorsed the Free Motherland - UCA Alliance. Politics Of Artsakh
Politics of Artsakh takes place within the constraints of a written constitution, approved by a popular vote, that recognises three branches of government: executive, legislative and judicial. The executive branch of government is exercised within a framework of a presidential representative democratic republic, whereby the President of Artsakh is both the head of state and the head of government. The legislative branch of government is composed of both the Government and the National Assembly. Elections to the National Assembly are on the basis of a multi-party system. As of 2009, the American-based non-governmental organisation, Freedom House, ranks Artsakh above both Armenia and Azerbaijan in terms of political and civil rights. The Armenakan Party ( — ''Armenakan Kusaktsutyun''), also known as the Armenakan Party of Artsakh, is a center-right political party in Artsakh. History The party participated in the 2000 Nagorno-Karabakh parliamentary election, winning 1 seat in the National Assembly. The Armenakan Party failed to receive any seats following the 2005 Nagorno-Karabakh parliamentary election, obtaining just 0.86% of the popular vote. The party has not participated in any recent elections, however, the party endorsed Arayik Harutyunyan and the Free Motherland party prior to the 2020 Artsakhian general election. Artsakh Freedom Party
The Artsakh Freedom Party ( hy, Արցախի ազատություն կուսակցություն) is an Armenian political party in Artsakh. History The Artsakh Freedom Party was established on 19 January 2020. Its founder and current party leader is Zaven Rubenyan. The party currently has no parliamentary representation within the National Assembly and acts as an extra-parliamentary force. Zaven Rubenyan initially proclaimed that he would run for president in the 2020 Artsakhian general election. However, in February 2020, the party announced that it would endorse Arayik Harutyunyan for the presidency prior to the 2020 elections. The party also stated that it would cooperate with Harutyunyan's Free Motherland party, as well as, the Free Motherland - UCA Alliance. United Civic Alliance Party
United Civic Alliance Party () is a political party in the Republic of Artsakh, founded on 29 September 2018. Electoral record The party participated in the 2020 Artsakhian general election as a part of the Free Motherland - UCA Alliance. Following the election, the alliance won 16 seats out of 33 in the National Assembly. Ideology The parties support base is primarily among youth and young professionals. The party supports the socio-economic development of Artsakh, the creation of a strong civil-society, and increasing the welfare of citizens. 2020 Artsakhian General Election
General elections were held in the Republic of Artsakh on 31 March 2020, with a second round of the presidential election on 14 April. Voters elected the President and 33 members of the National Assembly. It was the first time the President and National Assembly were elected at the same time. The Free Motherland - UCA Alliance, United Motherland, Justice, ARF, and the Democratic Party won seats in National Assembly. No party won the majority of seats, which means that coalition talks are likely to be held within parties. Presidential candidate Arayik Harutyunyan came first in the first round of the presidential election. A run-off between him and incumbent Foreign Minister Masis Mayilyan was held on 14 April 2020. However, Masis Mayilyan made an announcement urging the people of Artsakh not to participate in the second round of elections in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
