Free Mars
''Free Mars'' is the only album by the experimental psychedelic rock project Lusk, released in 1997 in a Digipak-style case. The album features an appearance by Tool drummer Danny Carey, as well as an assortment of artists and musicians from the Los Angeles scene. Lusk included Paul D'Amour (formerly of Tool), Brad Laner (Medicine), Chris Pitman ( Guns N' Roses), and Failure and Autolux member Greg Edwards . (D'Amour, Edwards, and Pitman were also members of Replicants.) A 7" vinyl single for "Backworlds" was also released, backed with "The Hotel Family Affair." The video for "Backworlds" got good reception on MTV. It premiered on 120 Minutes in September 1997, and was also the first video placed into heavy rotation on the channel after it received the most votes in four episodes of the short-lived video-rating series 12 Angry Viewers. Lusk (band)
Lusk was an American psychedelic rock supergroup featuring members from Tool, Replicants, Failure and Medicine. History The band formed when bassist Paul D'Amour, having recently departed from Tool, and keyboardist Chris Pitman got together. Greg Edwards and Brad Laner joined them shortly afterward. Their only album ''Free Mars'' was released in 1997 on Volcano Entertainment. Though the album was not extremely successful, it was nominated for a Grammy in 1998 for Best Recording Package. The music video for Backworlds, co-directed by D'Amour and Len E. Burge III, was featured on MTV's 120 Minutes and 12 Angry Viewers. Legal troubles with their label Volcano Entertainment which was undergoing a transformation coupled with increasing activities apart from the group by all members caused Lusk to quietly disband in the late 1990s. Oasis (band)
Oasis were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1991. Originally known as the Rain, the group initially consisted of Liam Gallagher (lead vocals, tambourine), Paul Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass guitar) and Tony McCarroll (drums). The Kinks
The Kinks were an English rock band formed in Muswell Hill, north London, in 1963 by brothers Ray and Dave Davies. They are regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s. ''12 Angry Viewers'' is a daily half-hour television show in the United States on MTV. In it, a public jury judged music videos. It ran from 1997 to 1998. The title is a play of title of the movies ''12 Angry Men'' and the 1997 TV remake, which aired a month before, that covers a jury deliberation. Winning videos were then shown more often on MTV. Its first host was Jancee Dunn, with Ananda Lewis replacing her later on. Premise The "12 Angry Viewers" were selected from 18 to 24-year-old MTV viewers who auditioned at MTV's studios in New York City. Through the course of a week they would watch several "brand new" videos and select a finalist at the end of each episode. On Friday a winner was selected from among the four finalists and put into "heavy rotation" on the network. Replicants (band)
Replicants was an American rock band, consisting of Ken Andrews, Paul D'Amour, Greg Edwards, and Chris Pitman, which has been on hiatus since 1996. The group has only released one album, a self-titled cover album, in 1995. The band's name comes from the verb "replicate", alluding to the band's status as "a tribute band". Origin Some months after Paul D'Amour left Tool, where he had played the role of bass player, he joined Chris Pitman, a keyboardist, and Failure members Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards. The four decided to restrict their work to covering songs by famous bands active in the 1970s and ‘80s. 1996 During the months of 1996, the band decided to follow different paths. Autolux
Autolux is an American alternative rock band consisting of Eugene Goreshter (vocals, bass), Greg Edwards (vocals, guitar, piano) and Carla Azar (drums, vocals). The trio formed in 2001 and have released three full-length albums, ''Future Perfect'' (2004), ''Transit Transit'' (2010) and ''Pussy's Dead'' (2016). Failure (band)
Failure is an American alternative rock band from Los Angeles that was active from 1990 to 1997 and from 2014 to the present. They have released six full-length albums and five EPs. History 1990–1997: Formation, ''Comfort'', ''Magnified'' and ''Fantastic Planet'' In 1992, Failure signed with Slash Records (an LA-based independent label whose releases were manufactured and distributed by Warner Bros. in the United States), and went to Minnesota to record their debut album with producer Steve Albini at Pachyderm Studio that summer.
