Free Beer (comedic Musical Duo)
Free Beer was a Canadian comedic musical duo, consisting of Newfoundland entertainer Kevin Blackmore and Lorne Elliott, who hails from Montreal. History The duo was formed in 1979, and toured throughout eastern Canada, from Newfoundland to Montreal, performing in bars and on university campuses. Among their comedic performances was an operatic arrangement of "I'se the Bye". The pair separated in 1982. Blackmore soon established a new group, Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers, performing Newfoundland music and comedy. Christopher Lorne Elliott, known by his stage name Lorne Elliott is a Canadian comedian, musician, author, and award-winning playwright. He is best known for his 11 years as host of the CBC Radio program ''Madly Off in All Directions''. Newfoundland and Labrador is an Atlantic Canada, Atlantic Canadian province with a folk musical heritage based on the Music of Ireland, Irish, English folk music, English and Cornish traditions that were brought to its shores centuries ago. Though similar in its Celtic music, Celtic influence to neighboring Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador music is more Irish than Scottish and has more elements imported from English and Cornish music than those provinces. Madly Off In All Directions
''Madly Off in All Directions'' was a Canadian radio comedy show that aired for several years on CBC Radio One, featuring comedian Lorne Elliott. It formerly aired on Sunday afternoons at 1PM (1:30PM in Newfoundland and Labrador), as well as on Saturday evenings on 6:30PM with repeats on Friday mornings at 11 AM. It was replaced in September 2006 by a comedy show ''The Debaters''. The show travelled around Canada, recording in front of a live audience at various local venues. The show provided a mix of stand-up, improvisational, sketch, and musical comedy.
