FreeCityBus
FreeCityBus or FreeTownBus is a family of zero-fare bus services which are operated in the centres of several cities and towns in the England, English county of West Yorkshire. The services operate as ''FreeCityBus'' in the city of Wakefield and as ''FreeTownBus'' in the towns of Huddersfield and Dewsbury. The service is run under contract to West Yorkshire Metro. FreeCityBus had also operated in Leeds between 2006 and 2011 before being replaced by LeedsCityBus in April 2011 then joining onto route 5 in 2016 and in Bradford before being replaced by Bradford City Bus in 2016. Since the first service began in 2006, over 11 million passengers have used the free bus services. LeedsCityBus was a bus service which operated in the city centre of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The service started in 2011, as a replacement for the Leeds FreeCityBus service, which runs in other towns and cities in West Yorkshire. The service ran under contract to West Yorkshire Metro. The services are designed to link passengers to the bus and railway stations, shops and other locations. Huddersfield is a market town in the Kirklees district in West Yorkshire, England. It is the administrative centre and largest settlement in the Kirklees district. The town is in the foothills of the Pennines. The River Holme's confluence into the similar-sized River Colne, West Yorkshire, Colne to the south of the town centre which then flows into the River Calder, West Yorkshire, Calder in the north eastern outskirts of the town. The rivers around the town provided soft water required for textile treatment in large weaving sheds, this made it a prominent mill town with an economic boom in the early part of the Victorian era Industrial Revolution. West Yorkshire Metro
Metro is the passenger information brand used by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority in England. It was formed on 1 April 1974 as the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (WYPTE) at the same time as the metropolitan county of West Yorkshire. Wakefield Cathedral
Wakefield Cathedral, or the Cathedral Church of All Saints in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England, is a co-equal Anglican cathedral with Bradford and Ripon Cathedrals, in the Diocese of Leeds and a seat of the Bishop of Leeds. Originally the parish church, it has Anglo Saxon origins and, after enlargement and rebuilding, has the tallest spire in Yorkshire. Its spire is the tallest structure in the City of Wakefield. The Optare Solo is a low-floor minibus/midibus with one or two doors manufactured by Optare in the United Kingdom since 1998. The Solo name is a play on its low-floor status, the manufacturer marketing its vehicle as having an entrance that is "so low" from the floor, namely with kneeling suspension. Wakefield Bus Station serves the city of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. The bus station is owned and operated by Arriva Yorkshire. It is situated at next to Marsh Way A61 and the city's new market and can be accessed from both Marsh Way and Union Street. Wakefield Westgate Railway Station
Wakefield Westgate railway station is a mainline railway station in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. It is south of Leeds to the west of the city centre, on the Wakefield Line and Leeds branch of the East Coast Main Line. The first Westgate station opened in 1856 a few years after the town's first station, Wakefield Kirkgate. In 1867, the station was rebuilt on the opposite side of Westgate on the main line between Leeds and Doncaster. British Rail modernised the station in 1967 when large parts of the 19th-century station were demolished and replaced with austere but functional facilities. Wakefield Kirkgate Railway Station
Wakefield Kirkgate railway station is a railway station in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. Unlike the nearby Wakefield Westgate railway station, Kirkgate is unstaffed. The station is managed by Northern but also served by Grand Central. It is on the Hallam, Pontefract and Huddersfield lines. It has a limited number of services to London King's Cross. History The original Kirkgate station opened by the Manchester and Leeds Railway in 1840 was the only station in Wakefield until Westgate was opened in 1867. The railway station building dates from 1854.
