Fredrik Lööf
Max Emil Fredrik Lööf (born 13 December 1969 in Kristinehamn, Sweden) is a Swedish professional sailor who has participated in six Summer Olympics, winning one gold and two bronze medals. He won the gold medal in Star with Max Salminen at the 2012 Summer Olympics and the bronze medals in Finn in the 2000 Summer Olympics and with Anders Ekström in Star in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Biography Fredrik Lööf was born in Kristinehamn close to Vänern on 13 December 1969. He started sailing the Optimist and started racing in the Optimist class at age eight and then continued to the Europe and OK classes. In 1988, Lööf started sailing Finn to qualify for the 1992 Summer Olympics. He finished fifth in Finn in the 1992 Summer Olympics and the 1996 Summer Olympics. The Swedish Sports Awards ''( sv, Svenska idrottsgalan) ''is a show to honor the past year's Swedish sports and athletes' achievements. It is hosted annually at Ericsson Globe in Stockholm in mid or late January. The event was first held in the year 2000. Star World Championships
The Star World Championship are international sailing (sport), sailing regattas in the Star (sailboat), Star class organized by the International Star Class Yacht Racing Association sanctioned by International Sailing Federation. American sailor Lowell North has won the most titles, with five titles between 1945 and 1973 and another seven podiums. Brazilian crew Bruno Prada won also five titles between 2007 and 2019. The most crowned skipper-crew combinations are Italian duo Agostino Straulino and Nicolò Rode and Brazilian duo Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada, with three titles each. Bill Buchan, Jr. has three titles, but with different crew. Iain Bryden Percy (born 21 March 1976) is an English sailor and double Olympic champion for Great Britain. OK (dinghy)
The OK Dinghy is an international class sailing dinghy, designed by Knud Olsen in 1956. History In 1956 Axel Damgaard Olsen of Vordingborg, asked the Danish yacht designer Knud Olsen to prepare drawings for a light and fast single-handed sailing dinghy based on conventional plywood construction. The resulting design was named the "OK", using Knud Olsen's initials in reverse. The OK was intended as a preparation class for the Olympic Finn and it has followed its technical evolution ever since. The rig is identical to a Finn comprising a single sail set on a rotating, un-stayed, bending mast. OKs are built in plywood, G.R.P and composite construction; all forms enjoy equal racing success. Freedom of choice in hull materials is replicated in choice of rig. Europe (dinghy)
The Europe is a one-person dinghy designed in Belgium in 1960 by Alois Roland as a class legal Moth dinghy. The design later changed into its own one-design class. The dinghy is ideal for sailors weighing 50–85 kilos. The hull is made of fibre glass and weighs 45 kg, fully rigged 60 kg. The dinghy is tapering in the stem and round in the bottom. The sail is made of dacron. The mast is made of carbon fibre and specially designed to the sailor. A soft mast is best for light sailors, while heavier sailors use stiffer masts. Sails are also specially designed according to mast stiffness and crew weight. The Europe was introduced as an Olympic class in the 1992 Summer Olympics as the women's single-handed dinghy. Optimist (dinghy)
The Optimist is a small, single-handed sailing dinghy intended for use by young people up to the age of 15. The Optimist is one of the two most popular sailing dinghies in the world, with over 150,000 boats officially registered with the class and many more built but never registered. It is sailed in over 120 countries and it is one of only two sailboats as an International Class by World Sailing exclusively for sailors under 16. Origin The Optimist was designed in 1947 by American Clark Mills at the request of the Clearwater Florida Optimist service club following a proposal by Major Clifford McKay to offer low-cost sailing for young people. The Optimist Club ran a soap box derby, but wanted more than a single-day event. Thus they were looking for a low-cost equivalent for sailing. Vänern
Vänern ( , also , ) is the largest lake in Sweden, the largest lake in the European Union and the third-largest lake of all Europe after Ladoga and Onega in Russia. It is located in the provinces of Västergötland, Dalsland, and Värmland in the southwest of the country. With its surface located at with a maximum depth of , the lowest point of the Vänern basin is at below sea level. The average depth is at a more modest , which means that the average point of the lake floor remains above sea level.
