Fredrick Davis (dancer)
Fredrick Eric Davis (born March 27, 1986) is an American ballet dancer and former dancer with the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Early life and training Fredrick Eric Davis was born in Brooklyn, New York to Diane and Frederick Jones. His mother later left his father and took Davis with her to raise him in eastern Chattanooga, Tennessee. As a child he lived with his mother in poverty, switching from various apartments to government provided housing. He was periodically homeless, sometimes sleeping in cars and churches, and often ate at a community kitchen until, after social workers got involved, he was adopted by his maternal grandmother, Evie Luvina Dill. Dill encouraged Davis to pursue the arts and got Davis involved in her church, Pilgrim Congregational; a congregation affiliated with the United Church of Christ. After Dill died from cancer, Davis was put under the care of Dr. John Mingus, Sr., the pastor at Pilgrim Congregational Church, and his wife Kim Hunt. Davis began dancing ... Alvin Ailey
Alvin Ailey Jr. (January 5, 1931 – December 1, 1989) was an American dancer, director, choreographer, and activist who founded the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (AAADT). He created AAADT and its affiliated Alvin Ailey American Dance Center (later Ailey School) as havens for nurturing Black artists and expressing the universality of the African-American experience through dance. A gay man, his work fused theater, modern dance, ballet, and jazz with Black vernacular, creating hope-fueled choreography that continues to spread global awareness of Black life in America. Hamilton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It is located in the southern part of East Tennessee on the border with Georgia. Andrew Lawrence Berke (born March 31, 1968) is an American attorney and politician from Tennessee. He served as the mayor of Chattanooga from 2013 to 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, he represented Hamilton and Marion counties in the 10th district as a state senator from 2007 to 2012. On March 5, 2013, he became Chattanooga's mayor-elect, winning more than 72% of the vote, and he was inaugurated on April 15, 2013. Greensboro Ballet is a professional ballet company in North Carolina. It is the only ballet company in the Piedmont Triad. It is one of the only non-profit ballet companies in North Carolina. Greensboro Ballet has presented works by George Balanchine.
