Frederiksberg () is a part of the Capital Region of Denmark. It is formally an independent municipality, Frederiksberg Municipality, separate from Copenhagen Municipality, but both are a part of the City of Copenhagen. It occupies an area of less than 9 km2 and had a population of 103,192 in 2015. Frederiksberg is an enclave surrounded by Copenhagen Municipality. Some sources ambiguously refer to Frederiksberg as a Quarter (urban subdivision), quarter or neighbourhood of Copenhagen, being one of the four municipalities that constitute the City of Copenhagen (the other three being Copenhagen Municipality, Copenhagen, Tårnby Municipality, Tårnby and Dragør Municipality, Dragør). Niels Viggo Bentzon
Niels Viggo Bentzon (Copenhagen, 24 August 1919 – Copenhagen, 25 April 2000) was a Danish composer and pianist. Biography Bentzon was the son of Viggo Bentzon (1861-1937), Rector of Copenhagen University and Karen Hartmann (1882-1977), concert pianist. Though his mother, Bentzon was descended from the Danish organist and composer Johan Ernst Hartmann and was the great-grandson of the Danish composer J.P.E. Hartmann. From 1938 to 1942, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen under Knud Jeppesen and Christian Christiansen. He then taught at The Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus (1945–50) and at The Royal Danish Academy (1950–88). As a pianist, he left many recordings of works by Beethoven, Scriabin, Busoni, Schoenberg, Petrassi and others, though he is mainly known for the interpretation of his own works. Kjeld Bonfils
Kjeld Bonfils (August 23, 1918 in Copenhagen – October 13, 1984) was a Danish jazz pianist and vibraphone player. Bonfils was one of the figures involved in the "Golden Age" of Danish jazz in the 1930s. During the Nazi occupation of Denmark from 1940–45, jazz was discouraged by the regime, but Bonfils played with Svend Asmussen Svend Asmussen (28 February 1916 – 7 February 2017) was a Danish jazz violinist, known as "The Fiddling Viking". August Blom
August Blom (26 December 1869 – 10 January 1947) was a Danish film director, producer, and pioneer of silent films during the "golden age" of Danish filmmaking from 1910 to 1914. Career Blom began his acting career in 1893 in Kolding, and was employed as a company actor for the Folketeatret from 1907 to 1910. During that period, Blom also began performing in films for the Nordisk Film Kompangni. He debuted there as a director in 1910 with his film ''Livets Storme'' (''Storms of Life''). That same year he was made the Head of Production for Nordisk Film and given the title of Director. Blom was a prolific filmmaker and during the golden age of Danish silent films, 1910 to 1914, he directed 78 movies. Before he retired from Nordisk Film and filmmaking in 1925, Blom directed more than 100 titles. Blom's volume of work is the largest of any Danish film director. Ludvig Birkedal-Barfod
Ludvig Birkedal-Barfod (27 May 1850 – 17 October 1937) was a Danish composer and organist. The son of the writer Frederik Barfod, he was trained as an organist at the Royal Danish Academy of Music 1870–1872. In 1873 he became organist at Metodistkirken in Copenhagen, 1877–1895, he was at Our Lady Church in Svendborg and 1894–1925 at Marble Church in Copenhagen. Moreover, he wrote music reviews for the Christian newspaper, a number of years. Among his own organ pupils included organist and composer Hilda Sehested. In 1903 he went on study tour to Sweden, Finland, Russia and Germany. In 1905 he was teacher of music theory and organ at Gottfred Matthison-Hansen Music Institute. Thorvald Bindesbøll (21 July 1846 – 27 August 1908) was a Danish National romantic architect, sculptor and ornamental artist. He designed the Dragon Fountain, Copenhagen (''Dragespringvandet'') and is perhaps best known as the creator of the Carlsberg beer label, which has remained unchanged since it was introduced. Biography Bindesbøll was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Born into an artistic family; he was the son of architect Michael Gottlieb Bindesbøll (1800–1856) and wife Andrea Frederikke Andersen (1819-1899). Johanne Bindesbøll
Karen Johanne Bindesbøll (1851–1934) was a Danish textile artist who specialized in embroidery. Together with Kristiane Konstantin-Hansen, from 1873 she ran a retail business in Copenhagen, selling embroidered goods and training young women to sew. The business proved to be highly successful over the next 30 years, attracting custom from individuals, churches and schools, and receiving several international awards. It closed in 1903 to enable Bindesbøll and her colleague Konstantin-Hansen to create large tapestries for Frederiksborg Castle.
