Fredericksburg Memorial Library
The Pioneer Memorial Library is located at 115 W. Main Street, Fredericksburg, Gillespie County, in the U.S. state of Texas. Designed by Alfred Giles, it was built in 1882 to replace the original 1855 courthouse, and was later superseded by the current 1939 courthouse designed by Edward Stein. The first floor houses the Children's Section, while the second floor houses the Adult Section, Texas Room, and newspapers and magazines. It is also called the McDermott Building because of the 1967 and 1984 restorations funded by Mr. & Mrs. Eugene McDermott. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, and was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1967. Fredericksburg, Texas
Fredericksburg (german: Friedrichsberg) is the seat of Gillespie County, in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 Census, this city had a population of 10,530. Fredericksburg was founded in 1846 and named after Prince Frederick of Prussia. Old-time German residents often referred to Fredericksburg as Fritztown, a nickname that is still used in some businesses. It is approximately eighty miles west from Greater Austin. This city is also notable as the home of Texas German, a dialect spoken by the first generations of German settlers who initially refused to learn English. Fredericksburg shares many cultural characteristics with New Braunfels, which had been established by Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels the previous year. Kendall County Courthouse And Jail (Texas)
The limestone Kendall County Courthouse and Jail are located in the San Antonio suburb of Boerne in the U.S. state of Texas. They were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and the courthouse as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1970. The courthouse was built as one storey in 1870 on land donated by local surveyor John James, and the limestone blocks came from local quarries. Philip Zoeller and S. F. Stendeback were the designers. In 1886, a second storey was added by Charles Buckel. Alfred Giles was contracted to add the 1909 front facade. The courthouse was in service until 1998, when Kendall County built a new courthouse across the street. Eugene McDermott (February 12, 1899 in Brooklyn, New York - August 23, 1973 in Dallas, Texas) was an engineer and geophysicist who co-founded Geophysical Service Incorporated (GSI) in 1930 and later its parent company Texas Instruments in 1951. One of his most widely acclaimed patented inventions was for oil exploration equipment, related to the early use of reflection seismographs, still widely used today in oil exploration to map underground rock strata using sound wave technology. Other inventions ranged from geochemical applications to antisubmarine warfare, often focusing on the use of sonar. Luckenbach, Texas
Luckenbach ( ) is an unincorporated community 13 miles (19 km) from Fredericksburg in southeastern Gillespie County, Texas. Named for German nobleman Jakob Luckenbach, who helped settle the Texas Hill Country in 1845, Luckenbach is known as a venue for country music and for its German-Texan heritage. History On December 15, 1847, a petition was submitted to create Gillespie County. In 1848, the Texas Legislature formed Gillespie County from Bexar and Travis Counties. Llano County, Texas
Llano County is a County (United States), county located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, its population was 21,243. Its county seat is Llano, Texas, Llano, and the county is named for the Llano River. During the American Civil War, the county was on the frontier, and Llano County's soldiers spent more time defending against Indian attacks than they did invading Yankees.
