Fredericksburg is an unincorporated community in Posey Township, Washington County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 85 at the 2010 census, at which time it was a town. History Fredericksburg was laid out in 1815. It was named for Frederick Royse, the original owner of the town site. Fredericksburg was incorporated as a town in 1859. The Battle of Fredericksburg was fought December 11–15, 1862, in and around Fredericksburg, Virginia, in the Eastern Theater of the American Civil War. The combat, between the Union Army of the Potomac commanded by Maj. Gen. Ambrose Burnside and the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia under Gen. Robert E.
