Frederick Wilding
Frederick Wilding (20 November 1852 – 5 July 1945) played first-class cricket for Canterbury in the 1880s and 1890s. He also played tennis and was a noted athlete. Early life Wilding was born in Montgomery, Wales in 1852. His father, John Powell Wilding (1812–1872), was a surgeon. His mother was Harriet (). He was educated at Hereford Cathedral School in Hereford and at Shrewsbury School in Shrewsbury, England. He gained admission as a solicitor in 1874. Wilding was prominent as an athlete in the west of England. In June 1879, he married Julia Wilding (née Anthony), the daughter of a mayor of Hereford. In the same year, they emigrated from Herefordshire to New Zealand. Life in New Zealand Wilding became a well-to-do lawyer in Christchurch, New Zealand, and was appointed a King's Counsel in 1913. Montgomery, Wales
Montgomery ( cy, Trefaldwyn; translates to ''the town of Baldwin'') is a town and community in Powys, Wales. It is the traditional county town of the historic county of Montgomeryshire to which it gives its name and is within the Welsh Marches border area. The town centre lies about west of the England–Wales border. Montgomery Castle was started in 1223 and its parish church in 1227. Other locations in the town include The Old Bell Museum, the Offa's Dyke Path, the Robber's Grave and the town wall. Wilding Park
Wilding Park is a tennis facility located in Christchurch, New Zealand. The land at Wilding Park was purchased by the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association in the early 1920s and gradually developed into a tennis centre. Several years ago, during the restructure of tennis in New Zealand, the Wilding Park assets were transferred to the Wilding Park Foundation Incorporated to ensure they were held in trust in perpetuity for the tennis players of the region. From the 1970s for three decades Wilding Park was known as ‘Davis Cup City’ with most of New Zealand's home ties played there; this included many World Group ties or the earlier equivalent Zone Finals. Bromley Cemetery
Bromley Cemetery is a cemetery in Christchurch, New Zealand. It occupies approximately 10 hectares to the east of the city centre, on the corner of Keighleys Road and Linwood Avenue. The Christchurch City Council maintains and administers the cemetery. History The Christchurch City Council searched for additional cemetery land beginning in 1913, and opened Bromley Cemetery for burials in July 1918. Later that year the cemetery became the main burial place for fatalities of the 1918 flu pandemic from the eastern side of the city. The cemetery has two rows of Royal New Zealand Returned and Services' Association (RSA) interments, and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) has records of 109 burials at Bromley, 15 from World War I and 94 from World War II. The Youth Hostel Association of New Zealand (often shortened to YHA New Zealand or YHANZ) is a youth hostelling association in New Zealand. it comprises 16 privately owned associate backpacker hostels—8 in the North Island, and 9 in the South Island. First World War
