Frederick Warner (politician)
Frederick Lytton Warner, MM (4 December 1875 – 17 January 1952) was an Australian politician who served as a Country Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1933 to 1943, representing the seat of Mount Marshall. Warner was born in Foster, Victoria, to Diana (née Tippett) and Gustavus Meredith Warner. He arrived in Western Australia in 1895, initially worked as a labourer and then in 1900 joining the Western Australia Police. Warner spent periods as a police constable in Perth, Guildford, Maylands, and Marble Bar. He joined the Australian Imperial Force in 1916, and served in France with the 44th Battalion. Warner was awarded the Military Medal in 1918, for helping capture enemy machine guns. He was discharged in 1919 and rejoined the police force. Military Medal
The Military Medal (MM) was a military decoration awarded to personnel of the British Army and other arms of the armed forces, and to personnel of other Commonwealth countries, below commissioned rank, for bravery in battle on land. The award was established in 1916, with retrospective application to 1914, and was awarded to other ranks for "acts of gallantry and devotion to duty under fire". The award was discontinued in 1993, when it was replaced by the Military Cross, which was extended to all ranks, while other Commonwealth nations instituted their own award systems in the post war period. Nungarin, Western Australia
Nungarin is a town located in the north east of the Wheatbelt (Western Australia), Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, approximately east of Perth and north of Merredin, Western Australia, Merredin. It is the main town in the Shire of Nungarin. At the Census in Australia#2006, 2006 census, Nungarin had a population of 142. The surrounding areas produce wheat and other cereal crops. The town is a CBH grain receival points, receival site for Cooperative Bulk Handling. History In October 1910, at Avon Land District, Avon Location 14227 and 14230 were set aside as a townsite reserve along the Dowerin, Western Australia, Dowerin to Merredin, Western Australia, Merredin railway. 1943 Western Australian State Election
Elections were held in the state of Western Australia on 20 November 1943 to elect all 50 members to the Legislative Assembly. The Labor Party, led by Premier John Willcock, won a fourth term in office against the Country and Nationalist parties, led by Opposition Leader Arthur Watts and Robert Ross McDonald respectively. The election took place in the midst of World War II, and as such, turnout was considerably down on the previous election. The election was delayed from its intended date of February 1942 by the ''Legislative Assembly Duration and General Election Postponement Acts'' (No 51 of 1941, assented 16 January 1942, and No 18 of 1942, assented 9 December 1942) due to the war. Elections were held in the state of Western Australia on 18 March 1939 to elect all 50 members to the Legislative Assembly. The Labor Party, led by Premier John Willcock, won a third term in office against the Country and Nationalist parties, led by Opposition Leader Charles Latham and Robert Ross McDonald respectively. Results The election was notable for the lack of change to the status quo. Only one member—former Speaker Michael Troy, who had been in the Assembly continuously since 1904—opted to retire, being replaced in his seat of Mount Magnet by fellow Labor member Lucien Triat. Elections were held in the state of Western Australia on 15 February 1936 to elect all 50 members to the Legislative Assembly. The Labor Party, led by Premier Philip Collier, won a second term in office against the Country and Nationalist parties, led by Opposition Leader Charles Latham and Norbert Keenan respectively.
