Frederick Walpole
The Hon. Frederick Walpole (18 September 1822 – 1 April 1876), was a British naval commander and Conservative politician. Background Walpole was a younger son of Horatio Walpole, 3rd Earl of Orford, and Mary, daughter of William Augustus Fawkener. Political career Walpole was returned to Parliament as one of two representatives for Norfolk North in 1868, a seat he held until his death eight years later. He was also a Commander in the Royal Navy. Family Walpole married his second cousin Laura Sophia Frances, daughter of Francis Walpole and Elizabeth Knight, in 1852. They had several children, including Robert Walpole, who succeeded as fifth Earl of Orford in 1894. Walpole died in April 1876, aged 53. His wife survived him by 25 years and died in January 1901. A lieutenant ( , ; abbreviated Lt., Lt, LT, Lieut and similar) is a commissioned officer rank in the armed forces of many nations. James Duff (North Norfolk MP)
Colonel James Duff (1831 – 22 December 1878) was a British Army officer and Conservative Party politician from Westwick in Norfolk. Early life Duff was born on 21 July 1831 in Elgin, Morayshire, Scotland. He was the son of James Duff and his wife Charlotte, eldest daughter of Sir George Beeston Prescott. His grandfather was Major-General Sir James Duff. Duff was educated at Rugby and entered the army as an ensign in 1851. Career He served with the 23rd Royal Welsh Fusiliers in the Crimean War, including the Siege of Sebastopol, and was taken prisoner in the Battle of Inkerman. He retired from the army in 1858 as a major, having received the Crimea Medal with two clasps, and became a Justice of the Peace (JP) in Norfolk. He was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for North Norfolk at a by-election in April 1876, after the death of Frederick Walpole MP, and held the seat until his death less than three years later. Sir Edmund Henry Knowles Lacon, 3rd Baronet (14 August 1807 – 2 December 1888) was an English businessman and liberal Conservative politician who sat in the House of Commons in two periods between 1852 and 1885. Robert Horace Walpole, 5th Earl of Orford (10 July 1854 – 27 September 1931) was a British peer, Foreign Office diplomat, soldier, and Royal Navy officer. Background The son of Commander Hon.
