Frederick Payne Watts, (1904, Staunton, Virginia – 2007) was an American psychologist. Watts published many professional studies and died in 2007. Early life and education Frederick Payne Watts, noted psychologist was born in 1904 in Staunton to Charles H. and Harriett Watts. Watts was one of five mulatto children, three of whom went on to be a physician, a dentist and of course a psychologist. Despite limited income, high educational aspirations were encouraged from an early age. As a child, Watts was influenced by his father who was an avid reader and supported the family through farming or maintenance work, and his mother, who stayed home to raise their five children. Watts was educated in the Washington, D.C. public school system. Upon graduating from Dunbar High School (Washington, D.C.), Dunbar High School in 1922, Watts attended Howard University.
