Frederick Meyer (photographer)
Frederick Heinrich Wilhelm Meyer (November 6, 1872 – January 6, 1961) was a designer and art educator prominent in the Arts and Crafts Movement. He was a long-time resident of the San Francisco Bay Area. Early years Meyer was born near Hamelin, Germany, on November 6, 1872, into a family whose occupations were dominated by furniture craftsmen and weavers. He apprenticed as a cabinetmaker before he immigrated in 1888 to Fresno, California, where he worked in a large commercial nursery. In about 1890, he enrolled at the Cincinnati Technical School and two years later transferred to the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Art. On November 7, 1893, he became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America. In the spring of 1895 he traveled to Germany, completed the program at the Royal Academy of Berlin for Fine Arts and Mechanical Sciences (aka Prussian Academy of Arts), and returned to the Pennsylvania Museum School, where he was awarded a master's degree. Studio Building (Berkeley, California)
The Studio Building is a historic building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and located at 2045 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley, California. Description and history The Studio Building dates back to 1905. It stood as the tallest building in downtown Berkeley in the time of its construction. It was built by Frederick H. Dakin for use by his real estate investment company. The architect was probably Clarence Dakin. An online facsimile of the entire text of Vol. 1 is posted on the Traditional Fine Arts Organization website (). The top floor of the building was designed as artists' studios and included a gallery space. The building was the original location of the California College of the Arts, founded by Frederick Meyer in 1907. The school, known originally as the School of the California Guild of the Arts and Crafts, moved to larger quarters after its first year. Isabelle Clark Percy West (1882–1976) was an American artist, designer and educator based in California known for landscape paintings, early Pacific Coast etching and her role in the founding faculty of California College of the Arts. Early life and education Isabelle Clark Percy was born on November 6, 1882, in Alameda, California. Her father was George W. Percy a San Francisco architect. Beniamino Bufano
Beniamino "Bene" Bufano (October 15, 1890August 18, 1970) was an Italian American sculptor, best known for his large-scale monuments representing peace and his modernist work often featured smoothly rounded animals and relatively simple shapes. He worked in ceramics, stone, stainless steel, and mosaic, and sometimes combined two or more of these media, and some of his works are cast stone replicas. He had a variety of names used and sometimes went by the name Benvenuto Bufano because he admired Benvenuto Cellini. His youthful nickname was "Bene", which was often anglicized into "Benny". He lived in Northern California for much of his career. Biography Bufano was born in San Fele, Italy. He came to the United States in 1901, with his mother and siblings. The family eventually settled down in New York, when Bufano was at a young age.
