Frederick "Fred" Hughes (birth unknown – death unknown) was a Welsh rugby union and professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s. He played club level rugby union (RU) for Llanelli RFC, Swansea RFC and Cheltenham RFC, and representative level rugby league (RL) for Great Britain (non-Tests) and Wales, and at club level for Barrow, Workington Town and Liverpool Stanley, as a , i.e. number 8 or 10, during the era of contested scrums. Llanelli ("St Elli's Parish"; ) is a market town and the largest community in Carmarthenshire and the preserved county of Dyfed, Wales. The Scarlets () are one of the four professional Welsh rugby union teams and are based in Llanelli, Wales. Their home ground is the Parc y Scarlets stadium.
