Frederick George Penney
Frederick George Penney or Frederick Gordon Penney (c.1856 – 5 August 1928) was a colonial administrator. He was a cadet of Straits Settlement in 1876 and retired as the Colonial Secretary of Straits Settlements in 1906. Education Penney graduated from University of Edinburgh with a M.A. Personal life He is the son of William Penney and Louisa Jane Campbell. Career In 1876, Penney appointed Cadet of Straits Settlement, and in 1879 as Acting Coroner, Singapore. In 1880, he was the Acting Collector of Land Revenue, Penang. and in 1883 was appointed Second Magistrate and Commissioner of the Court of Requests, Penang and, in the same year, transferred to Singapore as Second Magistrate and Commissioner of the Court of Requests. William Thomas Taylor
Sir William Thomas Taylor, (10 November 1848 – 18 March 1931) was a British colonial administrator. Career He began his career in colonial service as Collector of Customs and Excise in Larnaca (Cyprus) in 1879, subsequently being promoted to Receiver-General and Chief Collector of Customs and Excise of Cyprus. He was appointed the 21st Accountant General and Controller of Revenue of Ceylon on 10 June 1895, succeeding James Alexander Swettenham, and held the office until 1 March 1902. He was succeeded by F. R. Ellis. In July 1901, he was appointed as the 8th Colonial Secretary of Singapore, taking up his position there until 1904. He was confirmed in the appointment of Resident-General for the Federated Malay States in January, 1905 and made KCMG that year in recognition of his services. He held the post until 1911. Edward Lewis Brockman
Sir Edward Lewis Brockman (29 June 1865 – 10 January 1943) was a colonial administrator who served briefly as the Colonial Secretary to the Straits Settlements in 1911 and was the chief secretary to the Federated Malay States (FMS) from 1911 to 1920. He announced the establishment of the Town Planning Committee to oversee Kuala Lumpur town planning service. He was descendant of the English Brockman family. Brockman Road (Jalan Dato' Onn) in Kuala Lumpur was named after him, where the former Prime Minister office was located. Arthur Young (colonial Administrator)
Captain Sir Arthur Henderson Young (31 October 1854 – 20 October 1938) was a British colonial administrator. Family He was the son of Colonel Keith Young. On 5 November 1885, he married Lady Evelyn Anne Kennedy, a daughter of Archibald Kennedy, 2nd Marquess of Ailsa, and Julia Jephson. Education Young was educated at Edinburgh Academy and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Career Young joined the 27th Inniskillings as a sub-lieutenant, and entered the Colonial Service in 1878. He was first appointed to command a Military Police unit in Cyprus. The next 27 years he spent in the colony, holding successively the positions of Assistant Commissioner at Paphos, later Commissioner at Paphos, Commissioner at Famagusta, then Director of Survey and Forest Officer and Chief Secretary to the Government of Cyprus. John Anderson (colonial Administrator)
Sir John Anderson (23 January 1858 – 24 March 1918) was a Scottish colonial administrator who served as Governor of Ceylon between 1916 and 1918, and Governor of the Straits Settlements between 1904 and 1911. Education He was the only son of John Anderson, the Superintendent of the Gordon Mission, Aberdeen. Before he was twenty, he graduated MA at Aberdeen University, gaining a first class in mathematics and being awarded the gold medal of the year. Career Two years after graduating, he entered the Colonial Office as a second class clerk. In 1887, he was Bacon Scholar of Gray's Inn, and in the following year, he was the Inns of Court student. William Penney, Lord Kinloch
The Hon William Penney, Lord Kinloch (1801–1872) was a Scottish judge, and Senator of the College of Justice. Life The son of William Penney, a manufacturer at Castlepens Wynd in Glasgow, and Elizabeth, daughter of David Johnston, D.D., North Leith, was born in Glasgow and studied law at Glasgow University. He entered the office of Alexander Morrison, a solicitor, and then spent some time in an accountant's office. In 1824 Penney was called to the Scottish bar, and gained a practice, mainly in commercial cases. In politics he was a conservative. In 1845 he was working in Edinburgh as an advocate, living at 24 Great King Street in Edinburgh's Second New Town. He was raised to the bench on the recommendation of Lord Derby, in May 1858, on the death of Robert Handyside, Lord Handyside, taking the title of "Lord Kinloch". Seberang Perai is a city in the Malaysian state of Penang. It is situated on the Malay Peninsula opposite Penang Island, bordering Kedah to the north and east and Perak to the south.
